More miles on the car this weekend. Found out my passenger side rear axle was leaking gear oil. It's a 9" Ford currie housing and axles bought from socal. The axles use the tapered bearings and the exposed seal is leaking some gear oil going down the road. Looks like I'm gonna try to find someone locally to swap out the bearings with the solid bearings on both axles instead of using the tapered style. Called Currie and got nothing but BS, an attitude and excuses. Hope to fix this before Saturday / Jalopy Showdown.

Ended up fixing the issue with the leaking axle bearing last night. We pulled both axles out, went to the shop over the bridge where I built my center section, and we ended up replacing the tapered open bearings with sealed bearings. Just replaced both axle bearings, even though only one side leaked. Assembled it all last night and took it for a spin. So far so good. No leaks. Will test it more tonight on a longer drive.

Interesting about Currie. I was undecided about a rear from them. You convinced me with you experience to go a different way.

John's makes a great product and customer service was fantastic. I ordered the wrong gear ratio and they exchanged it and only charged me for the box !!

Yeah I guess it was the techs time of the month or something. Cars back together. We tested it down the highway tonight and had no leaks. Good to go for the Showdown!

You guys did good. A leaky rear end is a nice SMALL problem to find after all your hard work.

  25. Dino 64, Hope you don't mind that I post your photo from the Showdown. Loved the car when I got to see it in person. My friend is building a Model A (Ford power, see pictures) and I'm sure he asked the owner/builder a bunch of questions, which he said were all answered kindly and with patience. a0c2c8ce2037163d841bb4f9e3c4b35f.jpg IMG_09481.jpg IMG_09531.jpg

Hey guys! So sorry I couldn't get a chance to talk to you if you were trying to! I'm so glad you guys liked the car. I couldn't believe the amount of people asking me questions about the car. I think I need to make a list of notes in my phone of the specs on the car to refresh my memory about all the little things I kind of forgot about haha. It was so nice to see people notice all the little details we spent so much time on that most people wouldn't even notice. We're going to be at TROG in a few weeks, so if you plan on being there please stop over and we can chat!

Went to TROG this weekend. Had an absolute blast. Kustomrama even invited me and my family to park inside the show. Huge honor. I shot a ton of film this weekend so I'll be sure to share the coverage once I have the film developed. Even got to park my uncles 57 olds and my cousin Sedan in the show as well.
