I grew up in the 60's on a farm in rural Kentucky. We didn't have an indoor bathroom or A/C of any kind. We had an 8 party phone and two channels on the black and white TV, both the same network. But I did have a brand new 5 speed Sting Ray with ram-horn handle bars and a subscription to Rod & Custom. Life was good!

I think every generation, especially when surrounded by stories of 'simpler days gone by', yearns(did I just say yearn?) to live in the past. I was born in 1970, so naturally, growing up watching hollywood knights and other car movies puts me in the "I wish I was alive in the 50's/60's", but I got to experience both the simple times from then and witness the ramp of modern technology as we sped into the 21st century. Kids, you have no idea what it was like before cable tv, microwaves, vcrs(remember those:D), cell phones, internet, etc... There was nothing fun to do inside the house back then. You played outside all day til mom whistled you in.
We all want what we can't have, so I feel pretty lucky to have been born in '70.

Definitely the 60's and early 70's. There were bad ass hot rods and serious horse power.

I was born in '53 ... saw Hendrix , Joplin ,, doors ,, cream ,, canned heat ,, and way too many others to list without going on forever .... You could but a 55 chevy 327 , muncie 4 speed ,, for under $500.00.. in good shape ...orange county drag strip,,, lyons ,, Pomona,, all were open at least 4 days a week .."run what you brung" $10.00.... you could walk down the street smoking a dube without getting hasseled... bars were full of horney wives whose husbands were off to war in viet-nam..
THAT was fun,,,, BUT these are the good days.. every day that i'm still breathing is a good day ....

bob: anyone who didn't grow up in the 60's/70's will never understand the amount of freedom we had back then. reagan turned america into a POS and it's getting worse and worse. now every time congress meets we lose more freedoms.

i just talked to my motorhead friend in detroit, where i was born. the city is considering returning to an agrarian society because all the manufacturing jobs are now in china. detroit is a microcosm of what the entire country will soon become.

The greatest time I would have to say is now. How else could I get good tech from from Motorheads/Hotrodders? Also, it is great to hear comments from old schoolers that might seem rude or smart-ass like but really they are just saying do your home work and wake up.

I'd love to rip across the states in one of Jack Kerouacs books, the amazing cars and the ease of hitch hiking are a dream!

  15. Bucky Covington......"A Different World" ...... listen to his lyrics on this song, so true, kind of sad! What happened to that world? Time and change are two things that move along. They call it the present because it is a gift, we only have today and it is not so bad, I do not dwell on problems only solutions. Today is a great time to live in America, abundance of products, variety of food, freedom of choice, wow!. But yet we live in an angry society! Go figure.

Would have loved to be a teenager in the late '50s. The infancy of rock and roll, hot rods, drive in's.... When I hear the songs from that era I feel at ease. I was definitely born too late. BUT!!!! I would be 20 years older!

    .............................................................
I know what you are talking about ... I really do miss the old days ..and i am grateful that we had all the freedom that no one else will never have ..no helmet law in Cal.,, no gang violence ,, NO MANDATORY seat belts,, yes it was better ... UNTIL...... way too many people,,, doing things they were WAY too stupid to be doing ,,, screwed things up.... then ,,, all of the people in high places got together and started taking away our rights ..one at a time ... NOW ,, they are just trying to justify there paychecks..... and we are just scr**d.... time to think about re-doing the govmnt....maybe it's time for a REAL change .. instead of a puppet govmnt..
AND YES i still say that these are the best days ..
I have a lot of great memory's ..and i'm looking forward to 30 years more of them....

Depends on what years you grew up in ! To me the 50's through the 70's were the best of times . Money was there , jobs were there if you wanted to work , the cars were great too ! That period in time was some of the greatest times even with the wars . the times were just so much better and you had time to have and be with your family ! A man at his job really meant something unlike today . You could afford a nice home for your family too ! The time was allot easier to live in . There was plenty to do and lots of good time to be had . Life wasn't stuck in front of a TV either and life wasn't a game you played on a TV either !
Unlike today things are much harder to live with and to survive in .
Unless you lived in that time you won't understand what I am talking about !
Those times were GREAT and will never return ! Never again in history will life be so great like that again !

alcohol prohibition created "the mob" and now pot prohibition is creating an entirely new breed of "gangsta". despite numerous lost liberties, civil asset forfeiture and 2 million strong in prison, things are poised to get worse. the "mex mob" is coming to a town near YOU. these guys aren't your grandfather's, Zoot-suit sporting gangsters.

there were a lot of probs in the 50's 60's but i'd happily turn back the clock if i could. my uncle worked for dodge and drove a 62, 4sp, tripple black, Convertible, 413 Wedge, Polara. our family had a 64, 300, push-button, 413 4bbl, posi. later we had a 68 GTO with hidden headlights and then a 70 Formula 400. as kids we'd race HO slot cars, ride stingrays, trudge the woods and play dodge-ball for fun. later as teens we got high all the time, learned about cars, guitars and got plenty of scars. as bonafide stoners we were much more productive, active, friendly and fun than the "drug-free" computer nerds of today. there is no comparison to what we are dealing with now in this country.

Wherever you go, there you are.

or in this case whenever you go..

If you hated the 80's, 70's, 50's or whenever.... you probably are not happy now. Likewise if you were having fun in 1962 chances are you might still be having fun today.
