So after a two week break I'm back working on the coupe.
I only had the right hand door frame swinging on its hinges. So here is a pictorial of how I did the left side.

    I'm only using two hinges which is handy because a couple of them ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955554.818846.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955604.700714.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955642.767826.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955674.930438.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955718.233336.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955742.264815.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955760.854134.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955782.242429.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955804.214596.jpg
were badly rusted so I was able to repair them . Every time I pick up tap they seem to break,so I opted to weld nuts to the back of the hinges.
I then had to grind them down so they would fit
When every I weld nuts to things I try to put the bolt in to keep the thread in shape and I add some anti spatter paste to the thread to keep the weld berries from sticking to them
I used 8mm counter sunk hex heads
    To mount them. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413955910.644508.jpg
I didn't get a pic of the finished product but I did get a cold beer from the fridge as its beginning to warm up here

Here is the reversed firewall installed
It's screwed in because it'll have to come out again

So someone gave me this homemade
Folder which I used to make the rear panel under the back window

I've also tacked the resized backed window in dont looked too hard or you'll notice that I stuffed up cutting it in oh well big gaps to weld

Justin, thanks for the kind words on my build, Im glad I found your thread, not sure how I missed it, but it looks familiar to me ;) lots of metal work, and its looking good!!!

  13. Good to see your momentum back.
Keep up the good work !

  14. nice work mate, but I wonder, why you don't grind the metal clean, before welding.??? I see this a lot on the hamb..was I taught wrong.?..been grinding clean for 50 years..? just wondering....

I know I should grind then weld Porosity and all that I'm just always in a hurry
I plan on getting it blasted at some stage hopefully sooner rather than later

So it's been awhile since I've updated but life has been in the way
And now that world ends on the 25th of December and every Body wants it
Done by then I suppose I'll have less time on the rod

It's funny how we look at things for a while and over complicate them
That's what happened on the rear here but once I picked up the tools it seemed to flow for me.
The bottom piece is a bit of 40x40mm square that I cut 3 sides out of on the ends to curl the round ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417570643.984592.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417570664.117342.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417570683.600739.jpg

Looks good.....but.....I think you need to clean your metal better before welding, I think you will get much better results.

Cut three sides of some square tube
And bent it to the shape of the rear
To create the inside trunk channel
It ain't pretty but it worked ok for me
Best of all it was super fast ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419040262.265500.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419040285.316598.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419040305.525779.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419040327.873199.jpg
As you can see I cut one edge out once it was welded in place

I'll have to tweak it a bit but that's not bad for a day's work ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419051647.740611.jpg

You've been busy since I was last there Boy! I'd better get down next week. You should run a couple of pics on the FROD Mark 2. That'd cause a bit of chatter on the thread.. !

This is very cool. This is how all my builds have to be too, a frankenstein. since Im not good at saving enough money to purchase a good starter vehicle. But in the end if they are done right, which it looks like yours is, most people cant even tell that it is really 3 or 4 cars put together. Which is pretty cool if you ask me.

    Thanks for the encouragement guys
As for the frod m11 that would be considered OT on this forum and I would be beaten with a big stick for posting pics of it here old boy
Although it does have relevance because when it sells it will fund stage two of the build

I created a sunken number plate area
    It's back 1" or 25mm
I can hide a plate light in there
A word of warning.if you're like me and work fast it's easy to make mistakes, when cut the area out to sink it I cut the corners at 90 degrees then stood back and realised they needed to be curved to match the rear window. I should have drilled first.
I fixed it by cutting a piece of 3/4" tube into 1/4's and welding the pieces in.then filled in the gap with the mig.ive still got to clean up the trunk line but that won't take much doing
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1421120349.587749.jpg
Had to blend the belt line from under the rear window to the trunk area
I just double skinned it and ground down the weld ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1421120553.042202.jpg
Finished welding up the drivers side
    Roof areas
Hope you all had a merry Xmas
And are having a good start to the new year
    Justin
