The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, the guy who owns Goodwood and puts on the Festival of Speed, the Goodwood Revival, and the Members Meeting on his private race course, had this car right up front in his spot among the "Governors" who are the VIPs presenting the various races over the 77th Members Meeting last weekend. Thought folks here might like a look. The Duke really likes hand-painted letters and numbers on cars and they encourage it for any competitors at the MM or Revival. He lives by that standard, too.

I believe he purposely left out the word "rat". I'm going to go microwave the pop corn.

Com on guys. I would be pleased to drive that around.
It appears to be neatly done. Other than the non paint
it has the components of a very basic HOT ROD.
The rats I see around here have crap welds, expanded metal over some openings, various garden and odd metal adornments of unidentifiable origins. At a display of these things in a large group, I heard a young boy ask his dad what they were? His dad some what bewildered himself, replied" it must be the local junk guys showing what parts they have for sale to build hot rods." That truck is not bad at all in my humble.

To me, that's close to the line. On the wrong side of course. but still close. With a little effort and taste, that could be brought back from "the dark side".

I'd like it a lot more with some Chevy valve covers on it.

Looks like a pile, for some one to make in to a hotrod, hopefully soon before the crash*, or it rots away. The lack of engineering talent I see is only passed by rust rot ! If you think it's cool?,you just need to learn more, first about engineering an then about hot rods.
    With butter ! Thanks

I'll offer a comparison about the fake patina that's maybe a bit of a stretch. Many of you are old enough to remember Foster Brooks who played a very convincing "drunk" on TV. He said the difference to his drunk act was that he acted like a drunk trying to act sober, rather than him just trying to act drunk.

It would be a pretty decent little bobber truck if it was cleaned up and painted with a few of the embellishments such as the barn wood truck bed and license plates tacked to it removed.
My first thought last night was that someone sprayed salt water on the bare metal and let it sit out in the rain for a week to get the rust effect rather than just painting it and finishing the body work.

That's what I kind of thought. Not my cup of tea but not as bad as some of the truly garbage R-Rods I've seen. Getting close but at least it isn't made from an old manure spreader! I think with a little cleanup and some real paint that would be a pretty good ride. I get sick of all this "That's how they were back in the day" BS. Check out the old photo evidence. Primer until money available for paint. And where did all these tattoos come from some posers are sporting. Now to be fair to his Lordship, he may be getting his info from current silly trends. Hopefully we'll see that truck again after it's had a "makeover".

The Duke has owned that for a good few years now, maybe 10 years at least now. He drives it a lot, as its his 'estate' car, which he rags around the expanse of the Goodwood estate. I forget now though who built it for him.
