Oh man chopt 34 that's a nice looking car.

  8. Thank you Jay! I have been building this in my head for at least 10 years, so I guess I have had a lot of practice ; )
When I told a couple of people (HAMBr's) I was working on a Skyliner, I got rolling eyes and grief about how unreliable they are. I dont think anyone of them actually owned one. But I think they are cool and sure, these cars do require some TLC, once the mechanism is all in sync, the roof sure is fun to watch.

The Northeast wasn't exactly a haven of heavily customized cars in the '50s. They rusted away so fast that it just wasn't worth all the work so most were "mild customs" by definition. Bolt-on mods were pretty much the rule for anything street driven. Hell, we was in such a poor neighborhood that there weren't even any Fiastas to steal. We had to settle for the more common Olds 88 'caps. My Buick would have been above average in my high school parking lot. (I'll have to update the photo. It's got '56 Chevy tail lights now - my "one modification" that makes it an official "mild custom".)

Dyno Dave and Rudy like this.
  15. WOW Chris that is badass. That's quite a departure from your other rides.

  16. Thanks Tim! I have been wanting to build a car like this for a while, it is still a work in progress, I finally got my rear bumper from the chrome shop. Yes, it is a lot different than my other rides, a little variety is a good thing; )

A very mild custom. Ass end is coming down 2 inches very soon.

  27. My how things have changed. Back when I was growing up "MILD CUSTOM" was never used to describe a ride that was just lowered or had a set of Non Stock hubcaps. As I remember it something about the Body or Interior was not as "Factory" built.

Ever heard that old saying "There's nothing as constant as change," Pist-n-Broke...??? Words, over the years morph into other meanings...back when you and I were youngsters a "mild kustom" was many changes to a car...far from near stock looking which most are classified as "mild kustoms" now...

  29. ["Quote"] "There's nothing as constant as change," [end of quote] After nearly 70 years it makes me wonder if I fit anywhere anymore.

LOL...you "fit in" exactly where you are today...knowledgeable, relevant, full of history and looking forward to the next birthday...exactly the same place I am in at 70 years of age. Don't change a thing...!!!
