This show is amazing. I have seen the coverage in past years, but you really need to be there to "get it" and I am so glad I made it this year. Lots of new friends and many old ones in attendance. A pure customs show, low key, friendly, well organized, perfect weather and fun, thanks to Kevin Anderson and crew. I was able to shoot in a variety of background and lighting situations. Daybreak every morning, for starters.

I stayed an extra day to visit friends and go to the Indy 500 museum. This morning I had to pick up the computer at the Genius Bar in Norfolk, where a new hard drive was installed over the weekend. Then home to reload all data from the backup drive. Finally, I can edit and upload. Thanks to my wife Carol for getting the mac up and running. Indy (1 of 12).jpg Indy (4 of 12).jpg Indy (5 of 12).jpg Indy (11 of 12).jpg

I've been friends with Ed Lepold since he showed his '29 La Salle roadster at Farhner's first show in Keil Auditorium in 1963. When Kevin announced the Lifetime Achievement Award this year, he began by saying that this years' recipient built his Merc forty years ago when no one else was doing so, I knew the award was Fast Eddie's before Kevin announced that Eddie was indeed this year's honoree. No one more deserving, Ed's a class act. Indy (12 of 12).jpg

Custom Car Royalty. Kurt Mc Cormick's Sam Barris Buick. My first time seeing it in person. The lines and flow of the styling has to be seen in person to fully experience. Fresh from a two year, body-off, frame up restoration.

Byron Bode's re-creation of the Norman Wesp '59 Impala. The original, by Barris,
was built when the car was new and was voted one of the top ten customs by Car Craft Magazine in 1960. Spectacular candy job this time around Indy (1 of 1)-7.jpg .

  15. Super pics Tom! Especially great job capturing the brilliance of of Byron's paint! Sure enjoyed getting to meet you!

Tom, getting to meet and talk with you was the absolute highlight of the event for me. Can't wait to see the rest of your pics.

Mark, I have been enjoying your excellent on-the-fly coverage since day one on my phone. But was unable to log onto HAMB with my phone, so this is the first time I am able let you know that.

In my lifetime, I have been very fortunate to have been able to live out my wildest car dreams, so what a pleasure to hang out with someone else who has always been in the Right Place at the Right Time. Forrest Gump got nuthin' on us! Lots of fun swapping road stories.

The Egyptian, Don Boeke, from Dayton, OH. Don demonstrates why Lincolns rule. He's been customizing since 1957. Practice makes perfect.

Don's design concepts are elegant, he does the bodywork, he does the paint work and then the pinstriping.....all done masterfully. I suggested to him that there is no other such master in the custom world who excels in all four disciplines.

The Lincoln won the Participant's Choice Award and Best Paint at this year's event.

    The "Snooky" Janick '41.

Built by Barris in the early '50's, the car was acquired by George Mallory of Shawnee, KS in 1975 for something like $400. George learned later that was indeed an historic car. During the past several years it has been finished to Pebble Beach Historic Custom standards. Indy (1 of 1)-11.jpg
