Yes 308. Great on the road. Not so much on the strip

No LS, it's a 496 Big block with twin 76 MM turbos.

Amazing that it runs as fast as it does, it's somewhere around 4,500 lbs.

  3. My bad, swore it was ls. Might not be the same one, because I remember rolling my eyes when I looked at it in the pits in June lol

  5. I'd rather have the road gears since you're spending a lot more time on the road then on the dragstrip, and not like winning the class was possible anyway.

  8. No wonder it gets 18 mpg with the 3.08 gears! 14’s is pretty darn respectable with that axle ratio.

We kinda know you, “go big or stay home”. :)

I’d have too much fun just driving it as-is to do much more to it.
We’re about the same age, but I feel so much older;)

How’s the squealing bearing doing, is it getting any better? Thanks for the guys posting the links to the live feed I was able to watch it for a couple of hours this morning and I really wish I was there! I love Bristol and remember seeing Shirley “Cha Cha “ Muldowney (sp) running there when it was an IHRA track.

Well heck, if the bearing insists on turning in the wrong spot...grease the wrong spot so it shuts up! :D Or thread a hose clamp around the flange to stop it turning....or I'll shut up now. :rolleyes:o_O. Good racing!

We're ignoring it for now, until it makes noise again.

Still a bit to drive tonight. We hung out at the check point a while.

He didn't go because the Hemi is apart. Took tension out of a bunch of rings again and broke a few pistons.

He put up a YouTube video about it on Sunday.

I like the primered fender. It illustrates priorities. Mechanics over aesthetics. Not that aesthetics aren't important, just that the mechanics comes first.

It's always been like that with the go fast guys. Only so much time and money available. Make it pretty later. Maybe.

And for that reason, it takes me back. I was just a kid in grade school through the '60s. The father of a classmate who lived in the neighborhood always had project Corvettes. I witnessed his refurbishing of a handful of them through those years. All pre-'63. Very very interesting to me. He got them all running good first. I'd see him driving one through the neighborhood, the body covered in a multitude of primer spots. Red, gray, black, old red paint. No hubcaps. Looked like a junker. Then one day, here he comes... all new shiny red paint... and white coves. Chrome hubcaps. Beautiful. I remember cheering as he drove by LOL.

Before I knew it, he'd have another one. Decorated with primer spots.

Reminds me a little of the Enzo Ferrari quote: "Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines."

    Cheers,

  22. That car runs really well for the combo..MPH is up for the E.T. , showing good power.
    Assume it's a 2.52 or 2.56 trans?
BTW, I bet the turbos didn't lose as much ET at Bristol ;-)

Hey you still have bragging rights for being car #1 and your having a blast with your son. It doesn’t get much better than that ;)

It's a 1964 or 65 M20, 2.56 ratio, as far as I can tell. It's so fun to row through the gears when getting on to the highway.

We're up and getting ready to head over to the drag strip. The sun is starting to do something.... up at 6, to bed at 11 or so every day, as long as all goes well..

    You're welcome!

New problem. Gear oil leak, rear wheel bearing inner seal.

Jim, that axle pic should be your new avatar! I also want to thank you for sharing the experience!
The live feed reminds me of why I stopped going to the drags. Hurry up and wait, and repeating the same things over and over on crappy PA systems. The only thing missing is the 2 strokes revving constantly. At least most cars seem to be able to keep from decorating the surface.

Wasn't the Rambler the car you fixed the axle on the side of the road using duct tape and a string? This might not beat that.
