So what was the record? The audio cut out just has it was announced. I'm sure I could look it up, but just curious how much over 400 it was. Great stories too George. The HAMB really is an amazing place.
The records for Breedlove of 407.447, 468.719 and 526.277 were witth the three-wheeled car, and the records of 555.485 and 600.601 were with the four-wheeler. Thanks to all for sharing. This is all part of why I love this little corner of the Web. I have had my nose buried in car magazines for nearly 40 years and every time I come here I learn something new. Thanks again-W.S.
George - I don't post here much but your stories are awesome! You posted the numbers of the LSR's and I thought I'd post this clip of RAF pilot Andy Green going supersonic at Black Rock from inside the cockpit. It gets WAY HAIRY at a about 1:35 in the clip. I can't imagine the G's he's going through. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHnNxMJLfvA
I couldn't find where anyone else posted these links, but in case some of you who have not seen these YouTube videos, check 'em out. You won't be disappointed. It's the entire BBC 6 part series In Search of Speed, "The Battle of Bonneville" that covers the LSR rivalries among Breedlove and the Arfon Brothers. LOTS outstanding film footage! These may not be in order. If they're not, just open one and the others will be listed 1/6, 2/6, & so on. (edit: I'm pretty sure #1 starts at the bottom and the sequence is from bottom to top) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z42kcuqNCu4&feature=related /><o> </o> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbjeYqshR_k <o> </o> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yzCGYKSjyw&feature=related <o> </o> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfDBMAZ_-eA&feature=related <o> </o> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Job736g6OW0&feature=related <o> </o> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zilevreAzoE
I was reading about Breedlove & Arfons duking it out on the salt when I was a kid. That's where my fascination with landspeed racing started. Breedlove had the SoCal cool, Arfons the Midwest cool - and they both ruled IMO!
