I got my '63 galaxie, for free. All I had to do was pull it out of the woods. that, and remove a 5 1/2 foot rattlesnake..... had it driving in a week.

  3. My second car, a '64 Plymouth Barracuda, which I bought from the dealer in October '69 when my neighbor traded it in for a new Satellite. Soon after he arrived home from the dealer, he called my mother while I was still in a class at the local university to tell her it was available. He had been my mentor, helping me get my first car, a '29 Model A, up and running. I got home after my dad arrived from work, and he and my mom met me with, "We want to talk with you about something." From several past experiences, that's the prelude to trouble. Not this time. They encouraged me to accept their $900 loan to buy the car (42,000 miles and regularly garaged less than 100 feet from our yard for five years!) and sell my Model A standard coupe. I loved both cars, but once I graduated three years later, I sold them to repay my parents and buy a '64 Jaguar drophead. Horrible mistake! The Jag was a money pit. Dads Pics 058.JPG

Early '70s when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale bought a '39-'40 coupe body and frame for $75. It had a really well done chop and sectioned hood with raise front fenders. Sold it for a quick $50 profit - stupid stupid stupid. Sure would like to know what happened to it.

Found my '30 Roadster body in 1962, got it for cleaning out the garage it was in. That also was the start of my parts flea marketing. Free Roadster body and startup inventory. Bob

  6. I felt I got a good deal on my 59 El Camino when I bought it from Marcus Edell in 2002 from Fremont CA. Chassis was done with a balanced and blueprinted 427 Big Block Chevy. $5500.

  9. Had so many good deals in the last 45 years it's almost embarrassing.
Here's a couple of the last ones.

    7 years ago, two 1948 F1 trucks. $1500.
Both were very complete and ended up being runner / drivers.
One on tow truck had 1957 OHV 223 6cyl & converted to 3 on tree
One on trailer was OG flathead 6, 3sp

    A year later..
    2011 08 07 a both trucks big.JPG

Sold them 3 years ago and did well.
Bought this Impala and almost thought paid too much but sold for a very surprising sum.
    80,000 miles, OG everything, 348, Turboglide, I converted to tri-power & had 4sp conversion.
Rattle can painted it from the belt line down. Lots of cleaning, buffing and detailing.
New owner knew exactly what he was getting and planing on full restoration.

When I was 10-11 in the early 1960's Dad was a local cop and advisor to the local Hot Rod club. One night he took me to see the club presidents project, a 1932 Ford chassis with a warmed up flathead. It was perfect in my eyes, metallic blue, aluminum heads and intake, red ignition wires. Years later a friend wanted to know if I wanted a Model A chassis for free. It turned out to be the same '32 chassis I'd seen when I was a kid, still in the metallic blue, but far different than the perfect chassis I'd remembered. Crappy welds, lots of angle iron brackets, but it was free. Sold to Gibbon Fiberglass at Hershey for $200.00 & a Tshirt @ 1980. One of the big regrets now that I look back on it, it would have been great to have under my '30 Roadster body now. Bob

Slightly OT, but my '67 Barracuda became mine for the grand total of $10 (thanks for the loan, Dad!) in 2000... came with a two-wheel dolly/trailer to tow it home. Still looking for a better deal... ;)

Paid $600.00 for this already chopped 5W. Another $2500.00 in parts and 8 months later ( working nights and week-ends) and I was driving my first "real hot rod". First 1932 coupe body.jpg My 1st 32 Ford 5W finished front.JPG My 1st 32 Ford 5W finished rear shot.JPG

This was my second 5W coupe. Paid $1000.00 for this body in 1982. It had been channeled the full height of the frame. The floor sills had been cut with a hammer and chisel, and the sills bolted to the bottom of the frame. When I removed the body, I set it back on top of the frame and the cut panels lined up perfect ,so I gas welded the original floor back in it. Must of the trunk floor was missing, but was able to make up a new floor. I kept everything on this car 1953 or older, the 1953 flathead being the newest part on the car.
