Thank you, Loudbang, for moving this thread along regularly. As much as I love Altereds, I really don't have any good pics of them. I sure get a good fix here.

now that looks like something the average guy could build and not brake the bank. there are actually more of these than fuel altereds.

Hell yes , run what you brung fuel !!! What I'm seeing lately needs to run at NHRA big league money with the funny cars man.

The 392 had farmers for racing development , the 426 got computer scientists and Ivy League Math. Four spark plugs , 9 distributers , 14 valves per cylinder . In some modern altered classes they are up against old iron head 1955 331's man , good grief !!! If you have money go race money . Hope I'm not wrong on this but it's me.

Aside from the babe I see two notable features on this altered. First, the use of the "wrinklewall" slicks which was an improvement in traction. Secondly, as a reaction to increased available traction the engines started to move forward for less tendency to wheelie. That of course, amplified the need for slipper clutch development to keep from blowing the tires off.

It was all evolution. I'm interested in the chassis development of the old altereds. We have a wealth of pics of the finished cars on track, but can we get more construction shots or technical data?
