I'd be interested to see just how the driver is scrunched up to sit this low in an altered. After all, you're sitting right over the driveshaft. Awesome stance!

I'm 6'6". Once somebody said, "Greg, every time I see you get in that car I expect your feet to come poking out the bottom, like Fred Flintstone in The Flintstone Flyer."

    Hence, my screen name.

Frenchtown Flyer....just guessing by the height of your roll cage I would think your shoulders would be about level with the top of the body? I'm guessing that's you on the left in the photo? Is your seat fairly upright? That Flying Dutchman car either has a really laid back seat or the driver is not very tall....maybe 5'6"-ish?

Ford 300 in the "PETO" car? I have always had a thing for 6-bangers and was a big Kay Sissell fan back in the 60's. There was an article in Hot Rod about him building a 230 Chevy 6-banger block with a 292 crank that was about 310 Cu. In. or more when he got done with it. I still have most of my old Hot Rod Magazines from back then but I didn't come across that article when I went looking for it. Must have been in one of the few issues I'm missing. :(

Hi Lynn, Yes, me and my wife along with IHRA's Larry Carrier and Ann and John Peto (R.I.P. Petos). John and Ann ran Ford sixes for years in a series of cars, and Ann won two IHRA championships. John later partnered with Chrysler technician Rick Mudge on a seven second hand built hybrid six made from two four cylinder MOPAR sprint car motors.
I lay down some to fit in my car. I supplied my chassis builder with a template of my spine so he could fit the car around me. My knees rest against the tonneau cover.

That's the crudest set of flames and eyeball graphics I've ever seen...

...and yet, it somehow speaks to me.

History of an altered. The first photo is at Bakersfield, with a flathead, Smokers of Bakersfield Collection. The second is a copy from Drag News. The last is me driving, Irwindale, May 1967. My old Blair's buddy the late Don Wilson, bought the car, already obsolete...but that was Don Wilson, one of the world's greatest junk collectors. The car came with a 365" Chrysler with a Weiand Drag Star manifold with 6 carbs. I was just back from Southeast Asia, and the first thing I did after getting out of the Navy was to visit Blair's, where I saw the roadster in the parking lot. Don Wilson offered me a seat in it, and we raced it at San Fernando, Pomona, and Irwindale. Despite its age, we set the B/A track record at Irwindale with a 131 mph on gas. Later we got adventurous and tried a small nitro dose, but scattered the engine all over the track. We trailered it, and began Panic, which Don and I built together, until I got married and bailed out. I have no idea whatever became of this historic car, the last time I saw it, it was still on a trailer in Sierra Madre. I would love to know what happened to it. The last photo by Tim Marshall, when he was starting out in the drag racing photo business.

He has all the equipment to run as a Street Roadster - including the class designation. But I suppose he could jump into an altered class as well.

    Pretty car tho.

I took this shot in 1969 at Oswego Drag Raceway in Oswego, Illinois.
If anyone has a picture of that blue '66 Nova (IRONSIDE) in the background
    I'd sure appreciate a copy.

I truly appreciate your scouring the world for pics to post loudbang in this and other threads where you are a major contributor. A little slip-up here and there only proves you're human, not a 'bot.
    Thanks
