Yea I wondered abut the Swamp Rat Jr. myself.
OK Hamber, need a little help. Found a thread on the HAMB called Pontiac Oldsmobile rear ends. Putting a 1962 Posi unit in the project. Flange bolts all line up, but can't get the third member flange to seat on the housing. It was mentioned in the thread that a 62 third member would fit into a 58 axel housing with a little modification. The only thing I see keeping the third member from seating is some little flats that are in the way of the bearing caps. Any info will keep me moving forward.
One big bit of info that you missed telling us...
How far are these tabs holding the casting from the housing ?
.06", .13", .25" ?
Sounds like a little hand grinding and a good cleaning is in order.
Sorry Mike, it's less than .250. What i'm look for is where to grind and is that all that is necessary for the modification mentioned in the thread. I've put felt marker on the case but not able to giggle the third member to get any shinny spots, it a snug fit. That third member ain't lite and my old back is having trouble getting it up and down. Thanks for the response Mike, Hambers are the best people.
Put some clay in the housing to check for contact problems.
I would try the clay or maybe put some masking tape on the suspected areas, that heavy third member should mess up the tape where there is interference.
You might also call Fabcraft and ask them what other issues you might encounter. I’m sure they’ve done plenty of them.

For anyone dealing with a 58 Chrysler 9.3 housing and putting a later 9.3 in, just remove those little tabs, about .150 in four places, and the third member slides right in.. Happy camper today.....
I wonder - is there any significance to the "jr" designation on this and other cars (I'm thinking of Nancy's "22jr" in particular)? I don't remember any class designation containing a "JR" in poring over my old rule books.
Or is it somewhat akin to the old champ cars that usually contained the word "...Special"?
Hmmm I guess that was before that infamous Blowout that's been shared many many times...

I think its pretty unusual for a vintage race car to be found with its powerplant intact and in place. At least it looks that way on the outside. Most of the time engines blow up, partnerships dissolve, engines get sold off, etc., etc. The first thing I would want to do is disassemble the engine and blower , freshen it up as required and fire it up! You can work on the restoration of the car later.

It was up in Michigan and my truck was acting up, or I would've bought it, I'm pretty sure someone bought it for $3500
It was center steer and the whole body lifted like a funny car, the guy was listing it for his boss which was rebuilding it after he purchased it, but ran out of know how and got frustrated. It actually lasted over a day on marketplace and I was just watching it slip away with my broken ass truck in the driveway.
Another marketplace offering, I think this one was in the $8500 range, wouldn't pass current tech and offered as a cackle car if I remember right.
