Reminds me of a demonstration while I was in the AF. We set up an old F1 truck with large carbon dioxide tanks in the back with solenoid valves on them. Hit the switch and watched how the escaping gas pushed that old truck down the runway, eventually going 47MPH.
One of only a few things I enjoyed, while doing my stint for the gov.

That's steam, not smoke. The photo caption says so.

  4. No rocket scientist here .. nor am I a Mopar expert.

.. but between the appearance of folding top ribs, material wrinkles, torn driver's side rear window area of the rear top material .. & the passenger side rear window opening billowing in the wind .. ... it certainly looks "convertible" to me.

Stand by for Mercury, Gemini, & Apollo space program trivia, next. I'm on a roll.

  5. It's actually a 122mph convertible. They calculated it would be doing 674mph if the catapult was a 1/4 mile long...

The can in my avatar chased that birdfarm all over WestPac '65 - '67 ... gave us ''gas n groceries'' many, many times.

I wouldn't have chosen that car to be buried at sea! :(

In 1962 that car was probably a hundred dollar beater at best and the "civilian" probably paid the sailor far more than he thought it was worth.

The poor Plymouth is a ragtop for sure, but as a suspect, not a 49, no ribbed bumpers. Crazy test for the government gang!

Yep, definitely a ‘50 model. Not only by virtue of the bumpers, but the rear fenders as well.

I was on that “bird farm” in Westpac ‘67-‘69. I think I remember you from a couple of those Unreps!

I need the upper vent window pivot off a 49-50 Plymouth convert. Can scuba gear go to 6000 feet? :)
