Yesterday I took my recently sold 32 Chev. and delivered it to the new owner on his word only, it was about 100 miles one way. He paid for the car and was a very happy man. On the return trip, rather than sit in traffic for about an hour at rush hour time. I decided to go and look at a 51 Merc coupe I had heard was for sale. Turns out the owner had recently split with his wife and the car was residing in HER garage, where it had been resting for 15 years. He had previously imported the car from Georgia USA aprox. 25 years ago. The car is not running because of bad original wiring, he says it runs good engine is complete with dual exhaust, 3 speed stick with overdrive. The car is virtually rust free with original undercoating. Has a decent interior. So we start talking price I made him a offer and he began to waffle saying he had to give 1/2 to his wife. I then said there is not a lot of cash around these days which did not sway him. Finally I said I have the cash on me and will take take the car right away, then the little lady comes out to voice her opionion on the car being there!!! He then said show me the money, and I did he was shocked, and then I loaded the car on the trailer. I really think he was very sad to sell but very glad to cut ties with the ex. Not to sure what I will do with the car yet, but there cant be many more left out there.

Oh, Nice, what you find when you have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket. I'd say you did pretty good on it though. It's been over 15 years and I still miss my 51 that I had for 32 years.

I bought that 51 in early 1963 and the wiring was already shot in it then.

No, I didnt there was a delay in dropping off the Chev. and as a result I got caught up in Toronto's BRUTAL rush hour traffic mess, so rather than sit in it I decided to take a slight detour and look at the Merc. ( the little voice in my head keeps telling me to do these things). I couldnt believe my eyes when the guy opened the garage door, and to top it off he said in the past 2 weeks 3 seperate guys looked at it and passed on it. :):) Larry

That car was in my neighborhood. Walking my dog by this house every day and didn't know that Merc was in this garage. I asked a friend of mine about the car. He was oh yeah there is a Merc in my neighbors garage since a long time.
Man, I was pissed that he didn't tell me about this sweet gem before. Congratulations on the Merc, hope I will see her sometime.
