It really is a pain in the you know what to actually find those upper radiator hoses...not to
Mention finding 2 at the same parts store!
I had to drive to three different stores to find a pair.

Oh yea, and belts...another pain in the arse.

I always get them too short and this particular car being channeled with a 3" shorter radiator didn't make it any easier. I had only a few inches of fan adjustment up and down because I wanted to run a large fan. If the belt was too long it would hit the filler neck and if it was too short it would it the lower hoses...after the second trip I got smart and took home like 4 different sizes and returned all the others.

I spied Ben Haggs build, a few times! Killer build by the way.

I was wondering how I was going to notch the front of the frame for spring clearance and run F1 front shock mounts. I noticed Ben heated and bent his to extend the reach...awesome idea!!!

So I did the same thing and it worked out great. IMG_1036.JPG

Year, make and model...those are the common questions asked today, all the paper catalogs have been thrown away and the computer is king now. If it's not in the computer the person behind the counter has no idea what to do.

Been following what is a great build and how well you've nailed an era, which becomes more evident with the pic I found in the Rodders Journal scrapbook, dated '54.

Started dismantling the car for final welding. Still lots to do in very little time. I'm sure everybody building a new car for the race is feeling the same pressure .... except of course for the cheaters who are running the same cars but making small changes.

Before the body comes off the frame I finished welding the sub frame and sub floors.

Looking Soooo good Pete. you better have your Lucky Strikes rolled up in your T shirt for this ride !!

  21. Whether you meant it in jest or not, that's more or less how I feel. When TROG started, they made it very clear that they would not allow repeat cars in subsequent years. That didn't last very long.

Either way, build is looking great. Awesome that you're building a completely new car to bring this year. Can't wait to see pictures and video of it on the beach.

Yea, kinda meant it.....I think it's kind of a lame. When lots of people abide by the rules and build a complete car from pieces or build a speedster just for the race....and others spend a few weeks simply repainting or change out a few things and race again. I've been bustin my ass to get this car ready as many other folks have been doing... you basically test and tune your car on the beech because you literally wired it the night before or even fired it for the first time in the hotel parking lot in wildwood!

So when you have year after year to fine tune and race the same car over and over again you have more a competitave car than the ones that were just built.

    It is what it is....

I gave Pete one of my cigars once Tommy. He looked like he was gonna puke. I'll bring you a pack of those gum cigarettes we used to have when we were kids Peter. No lighter required.

  30. In Australia, it would be Alpine menthol if you wanted to look really cool - this build is just perfect BTW...
