  1. That's an amazing picture. Want some help making headers like those that scrape the ground? It's only paint. You can always go back to orange :)

I almost feel bad for painting it, almost...
I'm waiting on some messages to see if it really is the same body.
But it even has the master coming through the firewall in the same spot.

Those headers are probably the coolest part of that car, hahaha!

I take it you are mounting the alternator up top?

It'll be getting a 12v generator if I can find a decent one to rebuild.
We've got an alternator kicking around just in case too.

But yes it'll be up top or over to the side.

...generator?....generator? Did someone say generator? I've got two rebuilts -one from my '51 Flathead and one from my '56 Lincoln. If one is appropriate, we can talk Mr Wheeler Dealer.....hahaha

Generator yes! A dime a dozen. I've seen them given away at swaps. But you need a G.M. one to be right for your build.

    Heck yes generator!

Wanna mail me one of those free ones steel rebel?

I'm not sure of the mounts on a Ford one but, if I find that one would work I'm sure a deal could be made.

...what year/displacement is your motor? I'll try to find out what the generator specs are and compare with Fords....

    It's an early 60's 283.
I bet the electric specs are very similar.
I'm more concerned with mounts than electric nonsense.

  11. You have all these generators and I'm still running an alternator?? What the??

  12. Who cares about electrical nonsense. Worry about that much later. Get them mounts welded in!!!

....talk to me Mr Fancypants-with-an-alternator. I may even have regulators to go with but they would need to be checked out (but you knew that)......hahaha

  14. Mr fancy pants?? I have an interior made out of old military duffle bags thrown together hastily by me in about two hours. Which do you think I should change? That or a perfectly working alternator? :)

    12 Gens are reliable Dave.

Shawn, maybe put a new floor in before the seat.

  18. Haha. Good point. That floor is worse than the seats. Anyways. No more thread hijacking by me. You're the one actually making progress. Keep it up :)

Shawn, post more about that '47 Ford!
I've always wanted one of those.

  20. I'm keeping it safe for ya!! Let me know when to deliver it. (Worried I might be biting off more than I can handle time and space wise).
I'm not touching it until my slow time in February. You have until them to steal it

    More parts coming together...

Gonna cut these ends off and make beefier mounts and beef up the bones themselves too.

That's the first thing that broke on my roadster. If your going with open drive they are going to brake. If you want to see what I did I'll try to find a picture of take another.

Just to make this point clear, I'll quote myself for effect.
Lots of beefing up will be happening...
I'm going to be possibly plating the whole side of these '40 bones.
It might even get a torque arm off the pumpkin. We'll see how I decide to make the rear end brackets for the bones.

Heres what we did for my last build,
But, yes it had a torque tube drive line.

  27. Not to mention the horse power difference. I like the torque arm idea. It would certain take away worry about them breaking. Then you wouldn't have to worry how much horse power you may end up throwing at it down the road

This is what I came up with. Heavy brackets angled in towards the frame. Held on by grade 8 bolts with spacers. Really looks crude in closeup photos but pretty invisibly on the car. Maybe I should have chromed them but I think you can overdo chrome. Or maybe I'm just cheap. Might not be the easiest solution but works well. Wow I need to clean the roadster. Sorry I'll get out there this spring before LARS and the T Bucket Nationals in Carson City in June.

What did your mounts look like before you put the hairpins under it?
