Alright HAMBers from the Southeast and beyond ... time to party again at Atlanta Dragway!

HISTORY:
"The Atlanta $10,000 Drag Races were first held at Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway in 1964. It was the first big Top Fuel and Super Stock event in the Southeast. The race was held annually in October from 1964 until 1972. At that point the NHRA Gatornationals took over and overshadowed the event.

Forty years later we have resurrected the event with the intention of having the race every October and restoring its former glory from the sixties. Each year from 2012 going forward we intend to grow and nurture the event while maintaining the lure of Nostalgia style racing: Family oriented fun without the “in your face” commercialism of modern drag racing."

You never know what Eye Candy will show up in the pits at the Atlanta $10,000

 

Last year the question about camping at the race track came up. There is an RV camping area, but it is only used during the Southern Nationals. In all other cases, Atlanta Dragway does not endorse camping and has no provisions for camping (i.e., no hook-ups, bathrooms locked at night, etc.). However, participants and fans have stayed overnight in self contained RVs or slept in cars and such. Just know that Atlanta Dragway assumes no liability for campers. If you decide to spend the night in the parking lot or pits, you're on your on.

Toby do you have a pic of an original poster (back in the day) to post up? Way cool event for sure. This my friends is yet another "must attends" of the year!

 

Yeah, this one's gotta go in the bucket list.

I REMEMBER from TOM WHITFIELD

I remember reading in Hot Rod Mag about the Dodge Charger Race Team A/FX cars and when I found out they were coming to Atlanta Speed Shop Drag strip nothing in the world could have kept me away. They arrived on a car carrier and we could not wait for them to unload. They finally got one to crank and it sounded good but they were having trouble. Around the same time here comes some guy with a white Comet-Jack Chrisman. The whole world changed when he fired that beast up--can you say NITRO!! We found out he had been following the Dodge Charger boys around trying to get a race. They could never get much out of the one Dodge but Chrisman burned up the track. It was fantastic I knew then I had to have a nitro car.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
What do you remember?

I'm looking forward to being there, several of my buddys and myself attended last year and it was great. I'll pass the word around here.
