Sure they did, WLAs. You could have a '45 45.

Good thing they didn't make cars in '44. Imagine the confusion with '40 Fords...

I pulled into a gas station somewhere in Wisconsin with my 36 Nash 4 door sedan. Two guys jumped out of their car yelling "ZZtop, ZZtop - man we gotta have a picture"

The car is red after all.

All WLAs were made under one government contract for 88,000 motorcycles, with 60,000 to be assembled and the rest for spare parts and were stamped with 42WLA serial numbers even though some were actually made in 1943 44 and 45. The later models had small changes and the actual year of production can be determined by these changes but they are all 42 serial numbers.
Civilian production began again in November of 1945 and had 1946 serial numbers

    From Bruce Palmers work:
    ....... <table bgcolor="#646400" border="2" width="100%"> <tbody><tr> <td align="center" width="7%">42WLA </td> <td align="center" width="26%">Date of Manufacture</td> <td align="center" width="12%">Engine Crankcase Numbers</td> <td align="center" width="23%">USA Registration Numbers</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type I</td> <td align="center" width="26%">September 1st 1941-December 10th 1941</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA1000-42WLA7000</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-W-69888-U.S.A.-W-611203</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type II</td> <td align="center" width="26%">December 10th 1941-February 15th 1942</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA7001-42WLA13650</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-W-611204-U.S.A.-W-614257</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type III</td> <td align="center" width="26%">May 8th 1942-April 1943</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA16001-42WLA39229</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-W-616923-U.S.A.-637235</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type IV</td> <td align="center" width="26%">April 1943-August 1943</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA39230-42WLA50829</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-671621-U.S.A.-683220</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type V</td> <td align="center" width="26%">September 1943-May 1944</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA50830-42WLA60000</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-686726-U.S.A.-695901</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type VI</td> <td align="center" width="26%">June 1944-August 1944</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA60001-42WLA62480</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-6110920-U.S.A.-6113399</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="7%">Type VII</td> <td align="center" width="26%">September 1944-August 1945</td> <td align="center" width="12%">42WLA62481-42WLA70681</td> <td align="center" width="23%">U.S.A.-6128521-U.S.A.-6133520

If you find a 1945 serial number it is bogus, so No, You would NOT say you have a 1945 45" Harley, its a 42

  7. What you should have done was hopped off the the fender, popped the hood, pulled the coil wire and then said, "He'll really shit when he can't get it running !"

I love that I can park mine in the middle of a parking lot and see it from a mile away amongst all the econo-boxes and the fact that I get nothing but smiles while it's out.

about 7 months ago when i first was bringing my 63 ford f100 home from bumble fuck wisconsin i was driving into town to fill my mom's explorer up and a lady asked if she could take a picture of my truck for the local newspaper and i said sure why not being a young 15 year old kid with a new toy i was alll happy someone wanted a picture of my truck in horribal condition and well i go inside to get a drink and pay for gas i come out and her like 7 kids are climbing on it and now i have 4 dents in my roof and a cracked window  i hate bitches!

then about 2 weeks ago i drove my truck to school for the first time and still being in the process of my build and it kind of running but not how it should i pulled into the schools auto shop fill it up with smoke from my worn out y block and i shut it off and it backfires, well after 3 fire trucks 6 cop cars and 250 dollars bale for trying to blow up my school later i have to stay off school property for 2 years.

cant wait till i can lay a giant burnout in the front enterence. fuck you public schools im just a young kid trying to keep hot rods alive in my town!

My 54 is spray can satin black ,i have had her for 30 + years now i have gotten some nasty remarks from people including at my 1st car show back in the early 90s I went to it with the car in gray primer ,with rusted bumpers etc. and got ribbed buy "I paid to have my car built crowd" ,I did not want to ever do a show or cruse again after that,i later shot the car satin black .A friend invited me to has clubs sat night cruse at a local Walmart and i decided to go,i ended up in a spot parked next to the club presidents lead sled ford! his choice, cause his car was just as unfinished and satin black as mine , and he said "We real "no paint rodders stick together "lol ! It was a great night and i will never forget it,I cant recall the bad remarks but i remember the good ones, don't let them get you down ,enjoy your car and take care of it.

My Nova/Rambler/Valiant somehow manages to have big block letters on the hood that say F O R D, and a script on the fenders and tail panel that say F A L C O N.

But it is exactly like the one everyone's relative had back in the 50s.

The thing here is, most folks don't know, and that is okay. They are connecting with their memories, using your car as a metaphorical vehicle.

Let them have that. You don't need to correct them. This is not about you, or your ride.

Let them live in the moment.
