Sense i'm too cheap to pay the $16 to $20 dollars for the magazine on fleabay what can you tell me about this car? All i've read so far is that it was driven by a guy named Harold Cassaurag who died when the car flipped in the lights, possibly at vacaville. It was on the cover of Hot Rod magazine Dec.1954 and Motor life/Hop Up Mar.54. Hot Rod '53 Motor Life '54
Thanks @partsdawg I did some searching and found these pictures in the Vintage Cal Neva thread from @Jimmy B I might have guessed he'd know about it. Paging Jimmy B https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/vintage-cal-neva-dry-lake-drag-pics-early-50s.552227/
On second thought the CAL NEVA coupe, shown @ 1:10 in this film, and the coupe from above may not be the same.
Here's a few screen grabs by @Stogy and a thread by @Jive-Bomber. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/color-film-bonneville-highlights-1950-53.1119250/
Never seen it before, I am curious now though when you say it flipped at speed - wonder if his aero front extended underneath the car......
I'm thinking it may not be the same coupe, but then the air scoop and body work around the hair pins may have been added later.
I found a scan of the table of contents calling it the Cal-Neva coupe with the red and yellow paint job on the cover that's why i'm thinking the two coupes are the same, and the scoop on the hood and body work around the wishbones was added in '53.
According too @Joe Blow this car was also in the HOT ROD Annual 1957 and was painted by Acme Auto panting.
And thanks to @Joe Blow we also have info. on the driver. I bought a collection of HOP UP magazines awhile back, unfortunately March '54 was missing so i can't post the article.
I finally bit the bullet and bought the magazine for this article. after seeing all the lighting holes in the frame I can see why he was killed in the car.
