  1. This is the stuff that makes this site what it is ! I really enjoyed the how to, I wasn`t quite sure where you were going with the forstner bits but now I totally get it. That was a really cool innovation. Keep up the great work!

Good job man! Looks like you walked away with this one.

If you do win, what are you going to do with your $1,000?

    Hey Matt,

Killer job on the taillight, guard, teck & the win!

Jus a suggestion on the next one- why not make your urethane mold a two part one to include the step flange, mounting studs & the stepped circle cuts made with the bits, all moulded in the part? Make your parting line below the step flange, and leave some holes in the top part of the mold to poor in the resin.

    Again, great tech post!

i really liked these. drill bit idea was brilliant. I tried to cut straight lines in for the reflectors... Epic fail. time to try again.

Again awesome. thanks for the inspiration!

Actually they are exactly the way I wanted them when I had Matt made make the for me.I wanted him to make them like they were, when my merc had a 1 page feature in CarCraft in 1957.I do like like the idea about the backup lights.

the trick is you buy a gallon of resin for the lenses! I also started using the silicone molding liquid, it works better..the molds can be kinda crude unless you plan on making a bunch. you just want to make sure your mold will hold enough resin to accomplish your desired shape. the the really fun part is cutting the guard and then cutting the lens to fit the guard..if you take to much off the lens you will have to add metal back to the guard or pour yourself another lens...

if you need any help just ask..

    matt
