TECH:re-using bicycle parts for your project.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Swedester, Nov 22, 2006.

  1. ok,so tech week is over, but I still wanted to share this idea with you,so here it goes:ever needed a tapered/bent tube for say a shifter?brakepedal?headlightstand?emergencybrake?tailight stand?alternator bracket?the use for this is almost endless.for reinforcing, fender brackets, you name it,this piece does it all.
take the fork of an old bicycle, and cut of the leg,and use as much of the leg as you need.se blurry pic´s )

Worked at a bicycle shop all through H.S. Cone wrenches are pretty strong, considering they are less than 1/8" thick. Can prove very useful in various tight situations:

Never seen them in english sizes, but enough of the metric range to run the common 1/2, 9/16, etc.

  9. Spoke nipples work great for preventing frayed ends on clamped cables.

I grabbed a bunch of those political yard signs because they have big lengths of 1/4" round steel rod in them. I want to make a grille insert out of all free yard sign stakes. Make that campaign financing work for me.

I have always used bike cables for shaved doors and trunks. it works great with some of those obsoltete cantilever cable hangers as a pull tab.

I also have a bent Colnago fork with a Campy dropout that I have had forever (since I got hit by a car while riding it) and i now know why I have been saving it... FOR A SHIFTER!

If you ever need a throttle cable or trunk cable with CRAZY bends for some reason there is a bicycle brake housing called NOKAN that does wonders..Its expensive.

some high tech bmx bike l got for parts from a friend who has a scrap business has found its way into my 33 dodge:D the goose neck works perfect for my coloulm drop. the brackets are nicer than l could make so they are great for mirror brackets and holding my console in place.

l am sure l will use more bike parts, he has a pile out back l'm still searching thru.

    Later:cool:
