Thank you to the OP for this thread.
I got my projects new frame this past weekend, and I wanted to make my own 10 gauge boxing plates with flared holes down it..
I have been planning to buy a mini-lathe for months now. This seems like a good project for it.

Harbor Freight sells a punch set that punches pipe sized holes (a 2" pipe measures 2 3/8" and a 3" pipe measures 3 1/2"). It goes on sale periodically and is downright cheap with a 20% coupon. The thing works great and comes with dies up to a 2" pipe size hole. They sell a 3" pipe die separately. The 3" punched the 18 ga inner door panels stacked 2 thick like butter. The dimple die is made from some thick walled tube and works with the hydraulic kit.

    Ah... a Hemingway pun.

Never let it be said that I haven't tried to make this place a little classier. :D
