Spent the evening polishing out this lacquer hood so we can get a good color match for the skirts and a few other areas...needs a high speed buff, but good Lord this car is an amazing time capsule

Had to have the paint custom matched the camera system had some funky color coming out. I guess it's the lacquer that throws the camera off. This is about as close as we are going to get...

Well, it is blue(ish). Can your mixer add a little more something-something to get it closer? My Dad recently had a car half painted and the match is amazing. He said they calculated the formula with a computer.

The color looks very close to this photo. Hopefully, it will show as well on the car.

Your primer color choice may become a factor in the final result.
White, Light grey, dark grey or black may be best suited. Maybe worth a test?

Alchemy I took the hood to the paint shop and left it with them to do a custom mix...I think it will be very close once sprayed.

Mo I agree primer choice for the skirts and the very few areas we are going to touch up are going to be crucial.

    Thanks for following along

  13. The camera system works well if there is a existing colour that is close in the system. The camera's/computer do not formulate a new colour based on the readings but find the closest match to a colour formula that already exists. So if you picked a colour out of a book and ran out and two years later went back to get more but had no idea what it was there is a far greater chance that the camera will find that same colour and paint will match. Trying to get a 1941 colour to match with something that exists in current formulas is a long shot at best.

    The car is looking great!

Awesome build sir! Quick question... is a 41 Mercury rear crossmember the same as a 46 ford? I'm looking to lower my coupe and that looks like the best way!!

Thank you...I'm pretty sure the rear crossmember is the same. We couldn't think of any other way to give it maximum drop without removing the rear crossmember. I didn't want to go to a parallel leaf system. Good luck

Those wheel covers are perfect for the look.
Everything is so spot-on. Any chance of making it to Customs by the Sea in October?

I've been wondering, What are you planning for the exhaust system?
    Smithys?

This is one of my favorite builds. You seem to make all the right decisions.
    (EDIT)...
The coupe will certainly also be stellar, but I've always had a soft spot for the orphans.
And what a companion piece! I hope the next owner shares your vision.

Mo, I really appreciate the complement. The only reason I would sell the sedan is to fund the coupe. Hopefully it won't come to that. I am going to follow this sedan through to the finish. Next year it will end up getting a fresh coat of paint, any shiny stuff chromed and interior. I really would like to see this one to the end. Stay tuned we will be throwing the front end on next week and most likely getting her off the lift. Getting really excited!!!!

I read elsewhere that the plate will be recessed. Cool.
