Hey all. Does anyone know how to take the drive line out of this closed drive rear end?? I see there is 3 bolts around the end of the drive shaft, but I removed them and it won't budge... Do I have to open the case???
Never done it myself, but here's a link to the service manual: http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0406.htm http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0407.htm Sounds like there's a rivet to remove and that the prop shaft is press fit to the pinion...
The three bolts are what holds the front pinion bearing in. The drive shaft is pinned to the pinion and is the last thing out of the case when you disassemble it.
