Am looking to get rid of the chain and latch hookup on my 57 f100 styleside pickup. Anyone have good ideas on what to use? I saw one earlier this summer that used seat belt latches but not sure how they would stand up to the weather.
I use the same fittings (including the clip) that wreckfixer used. Simple, neat and doesn't come undone. Being stainless they won't rust.
We put a spring loaded pin each side under the top roll. The pins are joined via a small wire rope , and they have a tapered end to enable an easy slam latch.
this was what I used on my '41 it came from MACK Products (part # 10310) They make repro beds and replacement tailgates etc. www.mack-products.com these eliminate chains and I added tabs to the tailgate and made plastic covered SS cables for the limit staps
