Am looking to get rid of the chain and latch hookup on my 57 f100 styleside pickup. Anyone have good ideas on what to use? I saw one earlier this summer that used seat belt latches but not sure how they would stand up to the weather.

Yep, FWIW, removing that chain and hook is going to suck the soul right out of the pick-up.

  5. I use the same fittings (including the clip) that wreckfixer used.

Simple, neat and doesn't come undone.

    Being stainless they won't rust.

We put a spring loaded pin each side under the top roll. The pins are joined via a small wire rope , and they have a tapered end to enable an easy slam latch.

this was what I used on my '41 it came from MACK Products (part # 10310) They make repro beds and replacement tailgates etc. these eliminate chains and I added tabs to the tailgate and made plastic covered SS cables for the limit staps
