Tahitian Red

    Hi all,I want to paint my 37 chrysler tahitian red it was a 50's colour used by the G.M. factory or the Chrysler factory.it was a met.red and very popular on hotrods and customs in that time.Would anybody have photos or any info on this color.thanks for any help.

    There was a good post about that color here a little while back. The Lloyd Bakan car on HRM cover in the late 50's is a fine example.

    that's actually "Titian" red, named after the renaissance painter...

    That color was almost a standard for the day back then. A lot of high end cars used that color, and I think it should make a comeback.

    Buick used both tahitian red and titian in the '50's, two different colors.

    It was a '54 Buick color if I recall......and it's *Titian Red*.........

    Check the Buick chips......it's definitely Buick....

    "Tahitian Red" is also one of the reds Honda MX bikes were painted in during the '70s and '80s.

    The reason you don't see old colors recycled by most enthusiasts is that the early metallic colors can not compare to modern paint pigments and pearls. They lack the richness of color we have today, and the old metallics made the paint a little gray or "dirty" when you compare them.

  13. C9 did a good piece on the Titian red color a few years ago.
