I have a lead on a motor/tranny out of a 58 TBird. The guy wasn't too sure about what it was exactly. I couldn't remember if it was the 292 or what. what is the motor/tranny combo for that year TBird? Might be a really sweet deal if everything checks out on it.

A 300 HP 352 was the only engine offered in 1958 T-Bird. transmissions choices were a 3speed manual on the columm with OD, a 2speed Fordomatic or the top of the line 3 speed Cruiseomatic aka C6.

I don't think they had the C6 in 58. The engine is a 352 though.

  5. The C6 came out in '66. You could special order the Thunderhawk in '58 n '59 with the Lincoln motor, but those are pretty rare.
Most likely a 352, I think that there was an optional 3 speed auto in '58 but I'm not sure. It was available in '59.

  6. I think it will look good in a 55 pontiac [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] J/K

Cool - thanks for the info guys. Do you think I ought to pick this up? It has been rebuilt and the price is really right. Or at least I think it is.

  9. 58 Birds were available with the 300HP 352 - should be a code H on the data plate. The 430 was available in 59. A 3 speed cruise-o-matic was available in addition to the manual trans. These cars are a real joy to drive. Mid size, plenty of power, good parts availablity, and reasonably priced. I had a 60 Squarebird with a factory Sunroof, A/C, all power. There are some great pictures of a 58 T-Bird in the May 2004 Custom Rodder - page 32...Tom
