Not much activity on here lately. I did finally get my parts car up here from Missouri and I've been scoring a few needed parts off eBay and hamb classifieds.

I will end up using the frame and floor from this car.
If anyone needs parts from here let me know.

And a few more inspirational photos found.

Following this build for sure. Looks great. I just bought a 46 Convert that has a 3 inch chop. Missing 1 rear quarter window, the door garnish moldings, the interior windshield garnish moldings, the exterior chrome windshild moldings and the center roof latch assembly. If anybody has any leads that would be a huge help. you can contact me directly at [email protected]

  8. That looks like Sam Foose's car that was on the cover of the August, 1977 issue of 1001 Custom and Rod Ideas. 77-8 1001 Custom and Rod Ideas.jpg
(Except Foose's is a coupe, of course...)

I actually got a little shop time in. I have started to strip down the Tudor donor car.

More parts stripped off the sedan. Trying to figure out the best way to use the floor and quarters.
    image.jpeg

Also started removing parts off the convertible. And played around with the 50 Plymouth grill.
    image.jpeg

    I have good help.

Digging the grill. Thinknit might look funny with headlight trim rings but “frenched” looks pretty good from here if I squint a bit

I have a few chrome and stainless options for bezels because I had not planned on frenching the headlights. But I think I always knew that frenching or flush mount would look the best.

Anyone out there that has frenched or flush mounted without a kit. I'm looking for ideas and pictures.

  14. Here's the way mine are done - frenched flush (not "tunnelled")..

    The original bezel is tacked:

Metal finished with the bucket bolts welded behind for mounting:

You can partially see the bolts in this shot:

    Lamp assembly:

And.. the results (I have seen them done without the stainless ring as well, but this was our way of keeping the bulb in place)!

    Hope that helps a bit!

That looks perfect! No weird lip all the way around or 10 foot deep tunnel.

Leaving the stainless ring on really bumps the quality feel up and lets you have a little bling around the light. Absolutely love it man

Great info and quality work. Thank you for sharing. I like the look with the stainless ring and flush mount. I have never been a fan of the tunneling.

I have been spending some time at the shop stripping parts and rust off the convertible.
    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Then I had to quit, clean the shop, and roll the cars outside to host a cubscouts shop class.
    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Today I cut the roof off of the Tudor to get it ready to mate with the convertible. Instead of putting in about 30 patch panels, I'm going to use as much of this Tudor as possible.

What have I done, no turning back now. The lower back half of the thing is beyond rusty. Now to get it ready to merge with the Tudor.

image.png Holy cow.....no turning back now. Here is some local inspiration (Waukesha County). It started out as a 4 door.

^^ I really dig that rag top. I've only seen pictures, would love to see it in person.

Has anyone bought replacement rocker panels and running boards from EMS? How's the quality/fitment?

Finally got the ol' girl stripped as far as she's gonna go. I cut out and removed the rocker boxes in the cowl. The rest of the cowl is pretty decent. New rockers are on their way. I'm ready to start replacing rust with new metal.

Rust repair begins. Repairing the cowl structure first. Pretty simple repair. For those that didn't know, the convertible lower cowl and rocker bracing is different than the closed cars. I added a corner brace for strength.
I also started to make the lower outer cowl patch from parts car. I will install those next along with new rockers.

I had some good help from my neighbor (retired) on making a lower cowl patch panel.
I cut out the curved piece between the front fender and the door from a parts car and made the rest of the panel from sheet metal. I still need to do final trimming and fitting before welding in.
I think they turned out pretty good and Natalie approves !

  26. Looks like your off to a good start and I like the direction you're headed. I'm always a sucker for fat fender Ford convertibles.

I like the Plymouth grille. Almost looks stock, with just a bit of a twist. Great custom look.
