This popped up on my news feed: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates...g-to-his-records-amid-rubble-strikes-a-chord/ Can't help but like this guy. Smokes a pipe, listens to records and loves American iron. Kelvin
The apocalypse...what the hell is a man to do but shake his head and look up to the sky. You have your life but everything it stands for is in ruin. How a smile happens it cant be easy.
Wow, for any car guys who have felt picked on by local city code enforcement types or neighborhood association boards, your troubles pale in comparison to what this poor guy has endured. Later, K6
Amazing, there is always someone else worse off than you, yet they can still smile despite the adversity surrounding them. Heart breaking to see what has occurred.
I'm with everyone who posted so far, great comments, incredible story. Talk about uplifting. I would never in a million years thought there was someone in urban Syria, with dozens of old American cars shoved in a courtyard amongst a bunch of olive trees, on the street and wherever else he could stick them, like a dude's backyard in Tennessee. “‘I can start back from zero. I’m willing to rebuild my house, factory and cars,’” he told them, Eid recalled. “‘Nothing will break me or take me down or force me to surrender. Keep your spirits high no matter what.’” Wow. If you google "Syrian car collector" a ton of photos show up.
That is a touching story, easy to get pee in the eyes.I have a young guy here at my shop for an apprenticeship who fled from Syria about 2 years ago. He is one heck of a talented and focused guy. He is 26 and also likes old cars. He said he wants to buy my 55 Chevy when he is ready to stand on his own feet... haha people are the same all over the world, some are good, some are a..holes...Easy as that.
When looking at these pics it's hard to refrain from ranting about politics and religion, but one thing I know for sure: If I'd be sitting in the ruins of my house and the wrecks of my cars like him, I would not have such a positive attitude and smile as he has. What a great and inspiring man!
being 1/2 Syrian (other half Polish), I feel terrible for whats happening there now. I visited Syrian relatives twice in the 70's, spent a day in Aleppo. wish someone would have introduced me to him.
Hello, To quote/paraphrase Edwin Starr: War, huh, yeah What is it good for Absolutely nothing War, huh, yeah What is it good for Absolutely nothing Say it again, why'all War, huh, good god What is it good for Absolutely nothing, listen to me Oh, war, I despise 'Cause it means destruction of innocent lives War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes When their sons go to fight And lose their lives I said, war, huh good god, why'all What is it good for Absolutely nothing say it again ... And to make light of the matter so we all can go on, watch the Seinfeld episode showing Elaine Bennis telling a Russian diplomat..."War, what's it good for...absolutely nothing..." Try to keep from smiling... Jnaki
This an uplifting story, I wonder if I would have the same outlook in his position. The human spirit will prevail (at least in some people). Thanks for sharing.
