Sweet Nadine for sale for $390,000?

Anyone see Charlies Merc in Auto Trader Classics?

 

I saw that the other day.

 

Couldn't build it for that price. Sweet Nadine is one of those cars that proves a guy with a little money, a lot of creativity, and a couple of good friends can play with the big money guys and pro builders. Plus, this car gets driven! He was out last weekend at the local gathering and out cruising the town.

 

Didn't think I'd see the day. Wow.

 

that's a lot of money. so what is the Hirohata Merc worth? Sam Barris Merc? 2 million?? 5 million??

"Couldn't build it for that price" ... should be "couldn't pay a shop to build it for that price".

 

Pics? I've never heard of this car before.

I like a bunch too. Too bad the drip rails were removed. I'm also not wild about the color. I still like it though and like 49'fink said at current shop rates by a pro it would probably cost that to do. I hope it sells for anything close to the asking price. Our beloved kustoms seem to suffer in the resale arena. Anyone ever notice that?

 

Not sure why you'd say you couldn't build another one like it for that kind of money? 390,000 is a hell of a lot of cash.

 

At an average pro shop rate of $65/hr thats about 5200hrs give or take a few. For that level of finish 5000hrs give or a take would actually be fast. That's 2 guys working 40hrs/week all year plus some additional help and the balance being product, chrome, outside vendors/services, etc.

 

Saw Charlie driving it downtown with a car load of people a few weekends ago. You don't see too many show cars fighting Austin traffic on a Saturday night.

 

Nadine is worth every penny. She's a beautiful ride.

 

anybody that doesn't appreciate EVERYTHING about that car needs to go get a birdhouse building book and get out of this hobby.

Nadine is TOTALLY worth that, if not more. Charlie put years into that car, lots of little things going on there. A real beauty.

boy it's weird how folks will argue over if a car is worth 10k but this car is worth 390k, that's an amazing amount of money to throw at a 51 mercury....

 

and...if a guy wants a very beautiful custom Merc, and somewhere south of $400k is what it takes to give him his heart's desire, our job is to find fault with that? I have spent "stupid" money on stuff...but it's stuff I wanted, so if that's what is necessary to acquire one's dream car/plane/boat/date/dinner/hair-do/etc, just be glad that somewhere, somebody is having the time of his or her life.
