    Hello,

With the third foggy day and night battling off of the So Cal coastline, which one will win the effort? The land cools off and the fog rushes in as far as the temperatures allow. But as soon as the land gathers enough heat and starts to spread that effect, the fog recedes back to the ocean. Then we can all see Catalina island again. (poor Catalina Island…tourists make up a majority of the activities there. No travel, no tourists, no boating allowed to dock, etc. other than the daily supplies ships. But, their economy is going down faster than Las Vegas.)

At a neighborhood overlook toward the ocean, this fog/heat battle has been going on for several days. The dense foggy weather moves as to the particulars of the land and weather take precedence. But, sometimes, in the late afternoon, the land gives up and takes a nap. Then the giant area of fog, starting out at Catalina Island starts its fast creeping wave toward land. By sunset the fog creeps in as far as it is allowed by the cooling land. Soon, it sits until the land starts the cycle all over again. The sunsets are pretty good over the top of the thick fog bank that hugs the water and coast line.

We know there are hot rods down below on the surface streets. When the fog recedes somewhat, we can hear them going through the gears. That hot rod sound is definitely different than those idiot 1000cc bikers on the freeway late at night stopping at the top of a hill and then going downhill as fast as they can shifting the 6 gears without a hitch. (other than getting a ticket from the mighty, South Orange County friendly, CHP waiting around the bend.)

    Jnaki

Late at night, we can still hear a hot rod or two going through the 4 speeds when the fog has receded somewhat. We know they are out there in the industrial tract, doing the local tune up runs. On a clear late night, the freeways are relatively empty, it is silent, as are the local streets. But, in the distant surface streets, another hot rod guy is again, accelerating on the empty streets and going through his/her gears. A pleasant sound for drifting off to sleep, wondering how far the fog will extend that late night.

  28. JNAKI, Great photo and story. My wife and I have always gotten up early so we can be in the ocean at sunrise. We do the same thing when we visit the west coast. Only there it's to watch the sunset. I've never liked the hot crowded beaches in the middle of the day much. :) Ron..... 1556.jpg 236.jpg 114.jpg 319.jpg 20180120_173807.jpg 20171125_165541.jpg 592.jpg
