Sunday models

  1. I built this Black # 2 car when I was 10 years old (57 years ago) as a tribute to my childhood racing hero, L.D. Ottinger of Newport, Tennessee who later went on to be a two-time National Late Model-Sportsman Champion in what eventually became the Busch Series. 20171212_164029.jpg 333348-1318885076-636a4451195be7a4f6b3a17ae8548a61.jpg L. Ol' L.D. probably revved up real fast that night with that aluminum Weber 'wheel!
Love the 'tribute' models, Don...My first tribute was a 1/32 scale Center Door 'T', whittled down to look like Jack Chrisman's '29 Tudor...thanks to wheels, tires, flathead, etc. from the Revell 69-cent 'Hot Rod'!

Man, was I glad when the new 1/25 scale came out! BIG stuff... LOL

  3. ...........................Thanks. Yes those guys knew and utilized all of the tricks with a Flathead Ford.:)

Belated thanks rudestude - Nice wheels but too small for a 1/25 Model T; I have some photoetch wire wheel spokes meant for a large scale WWI aircraft that are a hair under 1" in diameter. I'll remove the wooden T spokes, split the rims in half and sandwich the airplane spokes between the halves. Was hoping for an easier way...

  5. I haven't visited this thread in a while. For whatever reason, I stopped getting notifications from the HAMB, so then I kinda forget to visit.
I finished this recently. It's a Hasegawa 1:24 VW van, and the decals are box stock. I built it box stock, with the exception of lowering it a little bit, and using the Beetle mirrors that also came in the kit. Paint is Tamiya yellow and pearl white, with pearl clear. The Moon discs are white metal and came in the kit as well.

  6. That kombi's cool. I built one years ago ( not sure if it was the same kit) but mine was dropped over a lamborghini diablo chassis, very crude but I thought it looked cool. No idea where it is now, probably got lost when I moved house.

Finally figured out how to load pictures. Here's the 455 Oldsmobile motor I'm wiring up. It's going into a '69 HO.

Forgive me if you know this, but L D now builds some very slick 40 fords. Most of the time in the top 10 at Shades run. Saw him race many times at Local race track

011.JPG 014.JPG 005.JPG 013.JPG Its a little early for Sunday but thought some of you more mature modelers may know something about this one. I don't recall where it came from. Don't know if its scratch built or from a kit. Its made of wood with brass, metal and plastic pieces(the lamp and horn). Tires are wooden but the wheels seem to be die cast. The seats look like sculpted plaster.
