i,ve had one for my chevy for years i take it off put it back on i like it on some cars and not on others
All depends on the car the look, I have seem them blend so well with the care overall that you have stare at the car for 10 minutes before you notice it, and I have seen them look so bad that you end up staring at the car for ten minutes going WTH?
I'm a little biased, I bought my 50 with the visor on it, and have grown to really love it!!! Nice for knocking the glare down and gives the car it own distinct look.
Sell the 53-54 Chevy to someone that will NEVER install a visor on it,and treat yourself to a '48 Plymouth 4Door and nobody will care.
That is the perfect look of the visor! I think it is awesome looking! I also love the subtle wood paneling of this car it looks perfect and the Christmas tree on the roof!
I'm planning to put one on my '53 210 - if you decide against it and it's looking for a home... hint hint.
Back " In The Day", no self respecting Hot Rodder would of been caught dead driving a car with a sun visor. They were usually accompanied by lighted swan hood ornaments. screw on port holes, red jeweled mud flaps, three or four radio antennas, fox tails, curb feelers, lakes pipes that were not hooked up to the exhaust system and a lighted dog in the back window. We called those cars Gook Wagons.
On the right car( split window, skirts sittin low etc) they are classy providing they are not the big goofy ones that look like an airplane wing.It should add to a nice stocker or mild Kustom not become the entire focal point of the whole car!
Thanks for all the replies! Everyone has their own opinions about what looks good, that's what's so fun about hangin' around here on the Hamb. Great photo's of the visored cars, keep them comin'!
Hate em (lowriders OK though, since that goes with their look pretty well.) For others though, it just clutters the thing up (along with other crap like bumperettes, continental kit, extra deep skirts on rear, bling bling multi-antennas,etc.) Just because it was an available accessory, doesn't mean it has to be installed. Seems like mid-west resto guys are the biggest offenders on that approach.
Okay, I went and bought it. Now the fun begins! I dunno, I'm thinkin' a visor would look pretty nice.
Depends on the style of car stocker or bomb then yes mild custom no. Just like you wouldn't wear cowboy boots with Burmuda shorts.
If its a bomb or lowrider type then I think it doesnt look right without one. Even if you dont like them, if you are offered one then dont pass it up. I see them sell for $300-400 all the time.
I like them on my OT trucks, but the one that was on my 88 OT truck I don't like its design, might need to change it....
Depends on the style of the build for me. I do like them on the Model A's or the lowrider. My wife on the other hand hates them on anything.
Dirtbag...that is one beautiful looking car! I posted that photo of mine in black and white oldy style photo, because she's easter egg blue right now, blaurghhh!!!
Now that is one nice lookin Chevy...... I had one that looked a lot like it in my college days of the 1960s.....no visor though. Back in the 70s when I bought some old 40s or 50s vehicle, the first thing I would do is remove the visor---sell it at a swap meet. Now, would probably leave it.
I dig 'em and have two waiting for the right car to put them on; a flat Fulton, and an OEM curved one for 53-54 Chevy. They can look classy: think '47 Ford woodie wagon at the hunting lodge. They can look down home: any old farm truck. They can look beachy: '50 plymouth wagon with surfboard on top. And of course, the lowrider bomba. But on a custom? Depends on the car. It can work, especially if the roof is un-chopped, as it cuts the windshield height visually. As I thought about this, I remembered a chopped black '49 Merc from an early Sled Scene East. More than twenty years later, I still remember that car, because the visor made the car look so sinister. From my album:
