Here's your stance, & check out the rim/tire combinations.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions and Rocky for those great pics.

I'm going to see what I can find in a W motor but for now to enjoy the car, I'm going to make the 454 look like an old rat motor and change the stance and the wheel and tire combo. Pie crusts on painted steelies and grey 5 spokes or Cragars on skinnes are the combo of choice.

Anybody know of any big block fenderwells available out there? Need those first.

Thanks again and I'll send along new pics when I make the 1st changes.

I was actually just wondering if you could run fenderwell headers on an x-frame car. I would like to know because my brother has a 62 we have been working on...

  5. Hooker Headers makes a nice set for my '55, try them.

Did a search for fenderwell exit headers for Donaz. Tri-Five applications are abundant.
Have not been able to find an application for his '61 Bel Air using a Big Block.
Have found several small block fenderwheel apps.

    Don't I recall reading you can use a 454 crank to stroke a 348/409?

Im pretty sure that a 348 / 409 has only 3 main bearings. So I don't think that a 454 crank would work. But I'm not positive...

    Wow! I stand corrected!
    I guess I heard wrong...
I have never been inside of a W motor. Never had enough money. But a stroked out 409 sounds really cool!

There was a set of used fenderwells for a BBC Tri-5 that just sold on Ebay for $455 plus shipping. Not cheap. I have to know for sure if these would fit an X frame before I go hunting for another set. I'm going to start another thread on fenderwell headers for BBC X frames and see what turns up. For now I'm going to keep the 454 in the car and enjoy it as a driver as other mods get done.

My 1989 Hooker catalog lists one part number for this setup, and it has a note "one tube over frame". I'm pretty sure the headers I have are these Super Comps, it's been a while since I've looked at them.

I think they match the 427 era just fine. I don't feel any need to find fenderwell headers for my 61.

I could see if I can find my headers to show what they look like...I know they're in the car somewhere!

Two ways to go here - one would be to make it look like a factory hi-po engine, or the second would be to add aftermarket parts as might have been done to a lower performance factory engine like a 396/325 hp.

This is a Weiand WCP2Q dual-quad "say-why-and" intake for rectangular port BBC and takes Carter/Edelbork carbs. It is mid sixties vintage as far as I know.

For single 4 intakes, the Edelbrock C-396 (oval) or C-427 (rect) would be mid-late sixties vintage.

The factory 396/375 came with a Holley on an aluminum intake in 1965 so a Holley would be correct for the era.
