what motors should i look in to run... for a early fifties style car...l but something that would be easy for a beginer to work on... but still have some get up and go....
does it still have the flathead 6 in it??! if you need one shoot me a pm, i have a 201 with a 3 speed out of a 39 you can have. you'd have to come get it though
Try the baby hemis from Dodge, the red ram 241, 270. They are pretty much plug and play and give you 140+ horses, and 1950's style
Hard to beat an original type flatty for easy-to-work-on, and you don't see one every day with duals, etc. Not fast but very dependable. I've got a working '46 Mopar rear end for your car if you want it. Free for the taking in Santa Cruz.
I'd take these guys up on their offer of a free motor, trans & rear end. Those flathead MOPARs run forever.
I got one for ya , HAVE IT SHIPPED TO ME! JOKING, JOKING, no SERIOUSLY. I've had really good luck with the small blocks in the mopar family, think 318 poly, came factory with 300 horse in the trucks with a 4 barrell in the 60's. And GOBS of torque, and it seems like no matter what you do they get 15 MPG in town or on the road.
I second the Poly motor, they came out around 55 or so. The 318s can make really good power. A couple of guys at the 62-65 Mopar site have 500+ horsepower Poly motors. It is the poor-man's hemi, afterall.
My son has a 36 coupe, good rust free body His plans for a driver M II crosmember kit from canada for about $125, lincolon rotors with gm calipers lincoln 8.8 disc rear Its just sitting under with 2 bolts 350 -350. so far he has less than a grand into the thing
Take the flatty. A decent mopar straight six is hard to come by and they are super cool. And free is a good price. Josh, if she don't take it I will. Even pick it up. Been a while since i was in your neck of the woods. Is Shorty's still open?
