I'm trying to get the Bendix starter out of a '29 Model A with a 241 Hemi. The car has a Junkins cast aluminum bellhousing, '36 3 speed, and flathead flywheel.

My issue is when I go to pull the starter assembly out the spring on the end of the shaft gets caught on the flywheel teeth and won't come any further out. I tried wiggling, hammering, and anything else I could think of to try to manipulate it out of there but it's just not coming.

Do I need to just try harder or am I going to have to remove the spring from the shaft??

    Thanks
