....almost lost track of what day it is. THis weekend (March4-6) is the York Stude swap. Any other stude heads going? Anybody looking for parts, I might be able to scope out for you?
Ol Scratch - Can you give me some details on this.. i dont' have anything planned except maybe a swap in Hamburg..but it's pretty small.. Tok
i like studebakers and have a 50 commander, but die hard stude guys are way to weird for my likeing......
Its a mish-mash. I've met some real cool people since I got my truck, but I've also met some flakes as well. I've found the same thing with my AJS bike since I got it. Some real righteous peeps, but some real shitheads too. Its a microcosm of life. Pullmans are the same way.
i agree with you...ive been to that swap 2 or 3 times and its kinda like the ad ...you meet the nicest people at the york stude swap. didnt care for some of the "big dog" venders tho...
I go almost every year but this year I have to work. I beleive I bought everything I am going to find for my 39 Champ coupe at that show over the past 5 years. Parts for those cars are harder to find than Willys parts. I hope to cruise mine in there next year and make some noise.
Several guys from our SDC chapter here in Doodah are flying out. Also - don't sweat the Studie purists. They are dying off, and fading away - leaving the younger bunch that doesn't mind modified stuff. Besides, who really wants to drive stock 60 year old stuff at hiway speeds? In 90 degree weather? Most folks don't know the diff anyways - they just like the old iron.
I have been playing with stude's for quite a while and the purists can be a pain in the ass, as in not selling to us hell-bound hot rodders <grin>, but the average stude owner is almost 80 years old so the parts and cars are flowing as they die off and stude's are still an extreme value compared to other makes, try buying '55-'57 chevy, '32-'34 ford or any pre-WWII packard parts or cars.
Yeah I asked a guy about putting a 259 w/ OD in my R5 You would have thought I just asked if I could pimp his wife into porn or something. Its gonna be my daily driver eventually and I drive the DC/Balt. Beltway frequently. Hey, it's still a Stude, just more friendly. But he just couldn't get past that iconoclastic stick in his ass. (Besides, I'd like to use the flat 6 in a belly tanker sometime in the future.)
He really wouldn't like me then, my 52 R2 is getting a small block FORD and automatic, maybe even air conditioning.
You are Satan, arent' you. I debated taking the 318 out of my Jeep to put in it. But figured I wanted to make things harder on myself. Plus, I'm weird, and do things for ambiguous reasons.
I have enjoyed this show in the past. And it is the only place I have seen Studebaker flathead hop-up pieces. Don't sweat the purists - they just help hold down the cost of custom parts! I'll be missing the Studebaker show this year, but I plan to be at the Hamburg, PA swapmeet on Sunday.
I went up today. I found some Stromberg WW carbs, kits and the shop manual to rebuild them. I just hope I can fabricate the tools to get the metering jets and the discharge jets out. I love weird stuff!
