I have a 54 Studebaker Champion Conestoga Ambulet, and aside from the long name and it is needing a restoration, does anyone know of any speed parts for the flat six?

For some fun reading, find the 1955 Rod&Custom with a white and coral colored custom Merc on the cover; it's got an article on hopping up Studebaker sixes.

If it helps any, it's the September 1955 issue---I just found it on Ebay.

I'm working on a 53 Champ 6. I got the finned aluminum head from Cathcart, looks great. I got an Offy 2 carb intake from Egge.

Bill doesn't have a website. Also, he has "retired" so I don't know how much he's doing anymore.

The turbo champ engine idea sounds interesting, how hard is it to do honestly?

I've raced one engine 3 years at the salt, each time rebuilding it with improvements. The TurboStude engine was pretty primative, and was built with hardware store parts and a used turbo. I had a lathe and a 110v wirefeed and patience. The carbon content in the steel used by Studebaker for their intake and exhaust manifolds can be welded with easy-grind wire. The beauty of the turbo is that it doesn't put a load on the bottom end (which on some stude flat sixes had 3 inch mains!). So, I've essentially built 4 of these..... You are using a stock cam and rotating parts, maybe nicer valves from a VW or LeBaron Turbo, maybe an aluminum timing wheel, and heavier springs in the clutch.

It's not mine. I don't know the owner, or the car.
But I snagged the pic a few years ago:rolleyes:

Ok, so I work at an auto parts store in the evenings after I get off work from teaching, and I just scored a 2009-11 F-250 Radiator for free! The guy installed it but he needed a F-150 so when he brought it back and said he only put the bolts on it, no antifreeze, nothing else, and my boss returned it as damaged, manager destroy. Well after work I asked him if I could take it since it has to be dumped, and he said sure. The radiator can handle a V-10 so I am going to put it in my stude since the stock is busted, I figure I'd buy electric fans and install. I know it's gonna take some fitting, but hey why not take a freebee.

I'm waiting for the holidays to be over and I'll be putting a Finned Aluminum Head embossed with "Studebaker", a Offenhauser Dual intake (mfg in 97) and a split manifold setup for the flat head six. Not sure how to post pics but available on request.

  29. Yesterday when I was at the machine shop drooling over my Ford flathead being assembled he was just pressing a fibre cam gear off of a Stude cam that was being sent out to a local camshaft grinder whom has two grinds for the Stude flathead, they are rebuilding and doing a mild warm up of that engine.

If you wish, the fiber cam gear can be replaced with an aluminum one. It may need to be shaved a bit in thickness. Phil Harris at Fairborn Studebaker can supply these.
