It'd be great to hear from Mr. Heeter himself. He'd be 74, so very plausible that he's still around.

Not to hijack the thread, but look at the name on the door of "The Canuck" that @phartman posted. That's one of Dale Armstrong's early efforts when he was just a young drag racer from Canada. Okay, back to The Dog.

donahee.jpg A neighbor of mine in Florida still has this one-piece welded steel flip top 'Corvair' funny car. He claims his was the first one. His last name is 'Donahoe'.

    Wait... Dona-Who?

  10. Yes, there was a Donahue- Mark- who did some racing with an interesting roofless car- 917 Porsche. Not a Corvair, not on the 1320.

What were You doing at that age? Automotively, I would pale in comparison to this! It would be interesting to see what Mr. Heeter did later in life. Thanks, Joey. P.S. The “topless” era sure added spice to Funny car racing, Great stuff!!

  13. Mr. Heeter did at age 16 what most of us never will do. He had an idea / dream, and he fulfilled it. Congratulations to him.

That's wild. Doing it all in high school is amazing.

  16. The new “HAMB Friendly” includes some strange crap. This is a new low. It’s ugly, poorly engineered, unsafe and I bet it was slow. I don’t get it. Belongs in O’ Skool Rodz.

The difference is this was done in period I guess, I don't think you'll see a rash of them though.

I'm interested in the other two rods he built, shown flanking that funny car! As noted, a 16 year old built it, and it's still around!
