I have done a few searches and came up wiith very little. If someone knows of threads contianing pics and info on straight 6 dragsters I would greatly appreciate being pointed in the right direction(s).
Here is a few pics I took at a couple of events this summer. The orange chevy is running 320 ci GMC inliner. The coupe was also running a six, but I have no info on what type. These cars were at The Minnesota Street Rod Association's Fun Run at Brainerd. This little coupe was also there. This truck was at the Hunnert Car Heads up this May, not really a drag car, but you get the idea. If memory serves, there was another car there running a six, but I can't find a pic of it. You may also want to check out this thread. Some 1000 pages or so to look through. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228509
You could click my website below for a bit. Also www.hotsixes.com. The lads down under and the UK guys run a lot of them too. But you are right. One would expect to find a lot more. Maybe we should start one. just for Six cylinder dragsters. Don
I'm thinkin' of building an I6 powered FED and am wanting to see some piccies for inspiration and any tech info for guidance. Thanks for the info and links!
i believe the 55 is out of Coon Rapids and is the testbed for the owner/operator of "Hotheads By Frank" porting/engine service, 763-767-3323 his ads suggest he does a lot of H.A.M.B.-friendly engines
Look up THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER here on the Hamb. Greg runs a couple different aspirated Ford 300 six powered drag cars. One of which (a carbureated altered) runs in the LOW 9's in the quarter! Heck it's been awhile since I talked with him - who knows maybe he's got it in the 8's by now??
These are from a friend of mine... (RICH) Wayne Luddingtons' FED Here's another D dragster also from the Rob Potter collection on Fotki.com
At the bottom of this page look for the label "Forum Jump". Select HA/GR. There are several early 50's-style dragster builds there.
Here is a shot of one that I drove about 40 years ago in Australia. The motor is an English Ford Zephyr, 171 cubic inches, triple SU carbs, 4 speed Hillman trans using the top three gears. It ran in the low to mid elevens in this form and then in the high tens in a later chassis. The photo shows the owner Rex Brown at Surfers Paradise Raceway (Queensland) during the 1970 Nationals. The class at the time was D/D and was restricted to pre 1963 six cylinder, flathead V8 and straight 8 motors. Motors ranged from a 225 Valiant, flathead Ford, straight 8 Buick, Holden (Aussie GM and like a small Blue Flame Chevy) six, Jaguar, etc. Roo
It's nearly 40years since I ran this dragster,.. English Ford Zephyr engine, 150cu in, Wade blower from a Commer 2 stroke diesel (another UK product) and just about everything else home made - speed equipment here in those days was non existant, made a best 11.2, 128.
