I have an excellent factory steel hood for a '64 GTO for sale. Rare, one-year only piece. Not reproduced. PM me if interested.

I went and looked at a parts car last week and its completely thrashed. I found a parts car and but they guy has decided to part the car out. So right now I'm figuring on buying a 40 ft shipping container, put the car in it, lock the door and saying the hell with it right now.

  16. 1964 came with the 389 or you could option to the 421, no 400 were available at that time, not until 1967.
I had a nice 64 LeMans with the 326 and a 66 Tempest I built up with a 400. Neither were coverts though.
Keep us posted. Love those 1st series GTOs.

Believe it or not, a friend of mine has one (64 GTO convertable) inside an old oil tank welded up. he cut a door in the oil tank so he could check on it every so often. it's been in there 30 yrs. He also has a couple of coupes and a lemans convertable for parts in other oil tanks. he's had the main one since he was in high school. Kinda wierd huh. I've talk till i"m blue in the face trying to get it but he won't sell. Now he's in the hospital getting a pacemaker put in. Doc says only 10% of his hearts working.

Awesome score ! You will have to find an original 64 GTO hood. Tell me, above the glove box, what kind of emblem is on there? What exactly does it look like?
Just want to check signs that it is indeed a real GTO.
If you need info on parts houses send me a PM and i can point you in the right direction.

I should of looked at all of the posts. This most definitely appears to be a lemans and not a GTO. The missing emblem above the glovebox is square and that was a lemans emblem. If it were a GTO it would of been similar to the 6.5 litre fender emblems - only it would of said G T O . Also, on the dash - surrounding the gauges, it would have had a engine turned panel. That said, its still a convertible and these are still worth something today.
It would of come with a 326 engine from the factory. Axle

No GTO's came from the factory with the 421 engine.

The Guy i bought it from said it had a 70 or 71 400 in it. I had someone decode it and it was a 70 or 71 engine.

I think it is a lemans. But all i wanted was a convert and I bought this one reasonable. I was going to buy a car that was in pieces. An original gto hood came with the car but the guy who was selling it thought he could get a little more $$ through ebay by parting it out. Thats why I'm tired of trying to find parts for it. I may wind up selling it. Who knows. Just a pain in the ass right now. Still focusing on my ford coupe.

Axle is right it's definitly not a real GTO. I have owned a couple of 64s myself. Its still a very neat car!

I know they can run the serial # to see if it is a real GTO or not. As far as who they are, I don't know. One of those GTA site should pint you in the right direction. If you decide to sell let me know, does it have a title?

Looks like it may have been Marimba Red originally. I'm driving my Marimba Red GTO post today. Have fun with it & it's still a great score, GTO or not!
