I painted my steering wheel at the end of last summer with an enamel. Held up awesome and was smooth and slick all winter. But now that the summer temps are here, my hand is sticking to the wheel like it has jam all over it! It only gets gummy when its real hot. What gives?!

What kind of paint did they use on the original wheels??

    Thanks!

  2. I used a few coats of acrylic with a few more coats of clear, been on for a few years. And in summer it gets REAL hot here, and never gone sticky or soft.
Might be time to get the thinners out and clean off that sticky stuff and start
    again.

Lemme guess...either spray bombs, or synthetic enamel, no hardener?

Sounds like typical crappy enamel spray paint. Use a urethane or lacquer, it will feel much better.

  5. Enamels, especially the rattle can type are generally soft and can get soft when heat is introduced.

I used automotive urethane when I painted my steering wheel. HRP

I used urethane, wet sanded, then cleared with a tint of the same color in the clear for depth. Without a hardner it won't hold to heat and heavy use.

  7. Strip off the JUNK and re-do with Quality materials
    Problem solved

  8. How many coats of urethane should you use to paint a steering wheel?
