I need help IDing a steering gear I bought to put in my Arod. I was told it was an F-1, but apparently it is not. On the case is the following information.
    GEMMER 321
    4cco7
Can anyone tell me what this is? Thanks. I need your vast knowledge.

  2. Pictures? Many of the "orphan" makes used Gemmer steering boxes. I'm thinking older Studebaker and International pickups had Gemmer boxes. They were also used on fork lifts and other types of equipment. If it's a good box--which is to say not worn out, it is a good box from a design standpoint-- and adapts easily to the car you're building, I'd use it without worrying too much about what it came out of. Maybe years from now, when you've been enjoying and driving the car, someone will see your steering box and tell you that it's just like the one that was in his Grandpa's Studebaker pickup.
