I need to have a shorter steering column, what is the best way to get this done? I have a 51 chevy and i put a grant steering wheel on it and the adapter makes it come out another 3-4 inches. Can they be cut and if so what is the best way to go about it or is there another one from another year that is shorter? Not positive where to start. Thanks!!! Mr. Wim!!!!
The shaft is one piece with the gear in the steering box. Some guys cut and reweld the shaft and cut the housing. I wouldn't. Other guys put the steering wheel on upside down, where it bolts to the adapter.
you could take a telescoping one out of a car at the junkyard, but i might look ugly. or if your a good welder you can take some out of yours.
