My 32 Ford roadster had a engine fire back in March of 2012. I have been SLACK about fixing it. Grundy Insurance quickly paid the claim SOOOO the non repair is totally on me. I have the 32 3W and a neat little O/T convertible so I had toys to play with this past summer B U T ... the wife said that a summer without the 32 roadster ... was NOT acceptable and I better get my old roadster ready for 2013. So ... all the fire damage sheet metal has been removed and stripped. Primed and slowly working on the hood and shell. I cut every wire out of the roadster. The wiring was done back in the mid 80's and I did not want to try and figure which wire was good and which ones were fire damaged so they all went. Took the firewall out, stripped it and now it is shiny BLACK again. The engine has been torn all the way down. I have a extra ZZ430 for parts ... so the roadster will get another 430 Horsepower SBC.
Randy,I am so happy to see you making some progress on the roadster,, HRP BTW,,those photos are huge!,,2,592px × 1,944px
I could care less about the car.. Glad to see your about and able to work on the old girl.. You've been dealt some blows and keep on ticking... Like a Swiss watch??
Sorry about that. I have a new camera ... and it does not automatically resize to a smaller size like my old Sony. Still learning the new camera. Will do better next time
The ethanol gas we have today ate the needle and seat out of the carb ... and it flooded. Causing a engine melt down.
Glad to see the Roadster being redone, it's one of my favorite HAMB cars. Knowing the cause of the fire what are the safety plans to prevent it happening again? Bob
About time ya get on the roadster! It's good to see your getting to it and looking forward to more progress pics.
That looks like some great progress! You should be able to easily hit your summer 2013 deadline at that rate.
I visited with Deuce Roadster a few weeks ago and went for a ride with him in his little convertible. He went a little out of his way to go to a station that sells gas with NO ethanol in it. A little more trouble, but certainly worth it to avoid the kind of trouble he had with the roadster. In some places, they are talking about selling gas with 15% ethanol content. AAAA is fighting this, as 15% ethanol is very corrosive.
Did not know about ethanol corrosion, learn something every day. Thanks for sharing. Love the 400+ hp thing!
Hopefully will see you and the roadster @ LARS next year Randy. If ya do go, why not hook up with the 3rd annual "Great Greybeard Adventure"
Yet another condemnation of the ethanol in gas and a rude awakening to the potential future disasters if 15% becomes widely accepted. As sad as this particular story is, it could have been a much worse situation if someone had been hurt or God forbid killed. Good luck with the re-do, Randy. That is one beautiful roadster.
