flathead3.JPG flathead4.JPG flahead 14.JPG flathead 11.JPG flathead 16.JPG flathead 12.JPG flathead rear mount.JPG My father and I have always wanted to have a Flathead to play with and eventually build a car around and recently I came across a 51 truck motor for sale that had been used it's whole life running some kind of pump or something on a factory stand made for it labeled General Power Inc, Quapaw, Okla.
It ended up being a 51 pickup engine with a single 94 carburetor and a stuck/bent valve that didn't run but we have since gotten it running and then dressed it up with some parts that we have had sitting around over the years. We found a tag on the motor saying it had been remanufactured at some point and when we pulled the intake and heads and drained the oil, it was clean inside and had no cracks. Running warm, it has about 25 pounds of oil pressure and drops to about 15 pounds warm and idling at 200 rpm. We pulled the rear PTO unit and mounted a stock transmission and added a set of steel pack mufflers and blocked heat risers to give it a good sound.

I have a 31 coupe body and some 32 rails that we will eventually put this motor in, but for now it's fun to just start it and let it idle on the stand.

The 57 chevy truck in the background is our current build but playing with the flathead has been so much fun that we haven't touched the truck in months. Now we need to finish the truck so we can put the flathead in a coupe!

I made a couple quick videos of it running with my phone which comes out as a .MOV file but when I try to upload it, it says that it's an invalid file type. What video file type is allowed?

  13. You need to upload it to you tube then post it here. Send it to me if want and I'll post it for you?

I think you need to get fabricating, and build out the worlds first Flathead Blender! (And a big party to follow)

:D That`s one sweet sounding engine. After I posted the other day,I remembered that a friend had bought a portable welder/generator Navy surplus back in about 65 or 66 for about $200.00 bucks.Only had 200 hours on the meter.Still giving excellent service in 85 when we moved to Tn in 85.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
