I worked on a prewar inline straight 8 survivor car that somebody had just put a new battery in and tried to start it. No compression on 3 cylinders due to those 3 intake valves not closing. I did get them totally freed up working through the plug hole with oven cleaner, but they were still not closing 100%. Pulled the head and saw that the gummed intake valves had shoved the brass valve guides upwards, which then would not let those valves close the last 1/16".

I pulled those valves out and used the proper tool to pound them back down, and that engine ran perfect.

All good now, 383 purring/growling nicely. Waiting on new fuel tank, old was gunked up pretty bad. I've tried cleaning old tanks with gunk and crud before, with baffles as this had I found forget it & just go new. JMO. First test ride pretty close :)
