hello needing some advice from the experienced here helping a friend get their 51 chevy truck started . I figured it be simple ,it hasn't ran in a few years I changed the battery and cant get it to turn over. not experienced with floor starters plus it seems that the lights to the accessories isn't there also need all the help I can get thanks
Well, start by pulling the plugs & shoot half a dozen squirts of Marvel down each hole … then grab the fan & try turning engine … What is a "light to the accessories" ?
thanks ,the motor turns by hand freely what I meant was no gauge lights or headlights come on not even a clicking from the starter could the starter be the problem?
You gotta start with the basics. Do you have power and ground at the starter? Are all the connections clean? Does the starter work on the bench? And go from there.
The stomp starter in that truck doesn't rely on anything inside the truck to crank the engine. you push the pedal on the floor, the linkage to the pedal activates the switch and engages the starter drive. Running down the list of things to check or make sure of. Fully charged battery Cables in good shape clean contacts on all cables on both ends of the cable Those sometimes have a ground strap to the frame and another ground strap from the frame to the block. If that is the case make sure both are hooked up and have clean bare metal contacts under the cables. Lack of good bare metal to bare metal contact is one big issue when having "won't crank" problems. There are no idiot lights to come on in that truck and no lights will light up when the key is on. There should be a wire that connects to the post the battery cable connects to the starter that supplies power to the truck it's self.
