Guys, anyone had any success with replacing their dead sender unit with one of those stainless repro units off (for example) ebay? (my 55 Buick unit is cactus erectus) I remember vaguely reading somewhere that they didn't work, thus the big question. Thanks gents.
In my experience with them, they are more "rough approximations" than reproductions. They all seem to be made at the widest of tolerances! With that said, the thing will most probably fit in the hole and read "full" and "empty" on the gauge. Before installing, check, double check and triple check the rheostat with an ohm meter. Likewise make sure the installed depth of the fuel pickup will be correct. Also check the installed height of the unit on the outside of the tank is the same as the old one. Alot of the replacement units stick up higher and therefore require thicker rubber spacers between the tank and mounting points. Just some of my thoughts!
