What are the spring mounts in your second picture on the first page? I have seen those before and cant seem to place them.

They are the standard Chevy 20s/30s rear front spring mounts for the under the frame swinging shackles , I turned up a new lager outboard pin that pressed in to replace the original bushes.
Hope these pics make more sense.

Update on the hot air intake box, I found a scrap of ally left that was just big enough to make a fake scoopy type thing, a roll of stainless mesh was been lurking in the shed for 40+ yrs and it's day has finally come!

Not sure about the look but better that a weird looking box which it's covering.

Changed the working carb for one with a smaller venturi and played around with the jet sizes in it and it runs a lot better now.

The top of the carb is now hot, the base is cool, but the manifold below feels just ever so slightly warm, a lot of odd things happen with pressure and flow changes!

Has anyone had any luck running Stromberg 81s on a Chevy banger? Wondering if I should give them a try, but not wanting to waste cash.

Just a nice happy update to this thread for y'all, although I have already mentioned this elsewhere.

Well you can forget all that free used twin carb and iffy manifold junk, I sought proper advice and after consulting Clive at Stromberg he recommended a Stromerg 81, so I bit the bullet and bought a brand new one !

Which meant yet another welded up experimental manifold, Clive advised that it would need some sort of a plenum chamber in it to get it to work properly.

So I came up with this, which has a wide area below the carb and a water heated chamber underneath that.

Problem sorted, it runs really well now with the jetting it came with, I'm properly impressed, it looks the part too, maybe a tad too modern for 1928 but who cares, money well spent IMHO.

Twin carb holes in the hood healed over really quick too :)

Thanks Baumi, the detailing is the fun bit, although it's far from perfect!

Thanks brading, MIG welding could be better, and I've had plenty of practice that's number four so far, there may yet be others to follow!

Don't think it's too inefficient compared to some period intakes I've seen, a few of pics of my method that may help someone.

Thanks, try enough times and things sometimes work out ok...

Just realised that I now own the major items needed to make a fair job of almost recreating this period photo, except for the hat and goggles [IMG]

You sure do! The 28 coach really looks nice! The beach racer neadless to say, is great!
Better get out there and find those googles and hat. Will be watching for that picture!
